Telecommunicator (2nd Shift) - Broughton Hospital
Broughton Hospital is currently accepting applications for a full time Telecommunicator (Administrative Specialist I) position working the 2nd shift. The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a telecommunicator for Broughton Hospital, J. Iverson Riddle Developmental Center, North Carolina School for the Deaf, Western Regional Vocational Rehabilitation Facility, and Department of Agriculture lands within Burke County. Duties are assigned by the Police Chief and, or the Police Major. Some work-related duties may be requested by other disciplines (CEO, Clinical Director, Administrator on call, and Physician on call, etc.)
This position is responsible for answering incoming emergency calls, directing them to the appropriate destinations, dispatching police officers, operating the Division of Criminal Information (DCI) system, and initial contact person during emergencies. This position is also responsible for setup and operations of the emergency operations center during an emergency or disaster. Other responsibilities of this position include maintaining logs and assignment of motor fleet vehicles, monitoring and alerting of the ET system, maintaining and disbursement of funds for cashier’s office, and monitoring of fire alarm systems. This Unit is also responsible for initiating the Broughton Emergency Code System for emergencies that occur on Broughton campus as well as alerting Burke Co. EMS and Morganton Public Safety when needed for all facilities within Broughton Police Department’s jurisdiction.
Normal working hours are a rotating 2nd shift from 4:00pm - 12:00am. However, flexibility in work schedule may be required for training or to meet hospital needs.- This position is designated Mandatory and must report or stay over during adverse weather events.

Our hospital serves the western thirty-seven (37) counties of North Carolina, as part of the state's system of care and treatment for persons with mental illness.

Experience working in Emergency Dispatch Center and/or Medical Facilities Operations Center- Ability to operate multi-line phone system
- Current DCI Certification or the ability to obtain within 6 months of hire
- 2 or more years of experience working in emergency dispatch or medical facility operations center
- Experience providing quality customer service
High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of related administrative experience;
or
equivalent combination of education and experience.
License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation:
Candidate for position must currently possess DCI (Division of Criminal Information) Certification I Modules 1, 2, 3, or obtain certification within six months of hire date.
