Statement of Purpose
Central Sterile Processing & Distribution (CSPD) is responsible for providing expert and competent services to enhance the quality of patient care. CSPD will handle instrument sets, patient care equipment and other medical devices according to the AAMI guidelines, and the regulatory body requirements.
The CSPD technician will receive and inspect any incoming materials, supplies, and equipment.
CSPD technicians are responsible for the process of decontaminating, assembling, disinfecting, and/or sterilizing reusable medical and surgical devices in a timely manner as to support the mission of North Country Hospital. The CSPD technician is referred to as a subject matter expert regarding questions related to sterility of reprocessing items which are utilized in various areas of both inpatient and outpatient departments at North Country Hospital.
Essential Functions, Duties and Responsibilities
- The department is divided into designated areas according to the functions performed within each area:
- ï‚· Decontamination where soiled items are received and cleaned
- ï‚· Receipt and return of instruments barrowed for specialty procedures
- ï‚· Preparation and Packaging area were cleaned items are inspected, tested, assembled, and packaged with in the sterilization area.
- ï‚· Sterilization area where terminal sterilization is performed.
- ï‚· Sterile Storage / Sterile Stores area where sterile items are stored until needed. This area
- is used to store sterile items received from outside vendors, and manufactures also where sterile items processed on site, or both for patient care.
- ï‚· Linen room is where delinting and folding all laundry used for surgeons and patient care.
- Inventory management on inpatient/outpatient units (stocks, maintains, rotates and inspects) supplies CSPD sterile products on patient units. This includes managing outdates.
- Has the ability to perform stockroom and vendor requisitions. Receives supplies from stockroom and rotates stock according to FIFO (first in first out).
- Maintains equipment for patient care, including disinfection of medical durable equipment.
- Upholds to the regulatory requirements for each designated areas for cleanliness of the work area.
- Accountable to the care and handling of specialty carts, such as urology, chest, port and crash carts
- Accountable to the care and competency of the equipment used to meet high level disinfection and sterilization, to include but not limited to Steam Autoclaves, V-Pro , and Steris 1 E
- Sterilization Systems.
- Ability to use the compute to communicate, charge inventory, and receive and return items.
Working Conditions
Reports directly to the department supervisor.
Ability to lift up to 35 pounds, reach, and stand for long periods of time
Exposure to hazardous substances such as sterility fumes, biological agents, and disinfectants
Regularly exposed to the risk of bloodborne pathogens when in decontamination
PPE is required (eye, face protection, and impervious gown, shoe covers, head over and gloves)
Scrubs provided and washed at the hospital.
Working shoes to remain at NCH
No jewelry, no nail polish or artificial nails are permitted
Job Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent.
Competent in computer functions as designated by the programs used in CSPD .
Courtesy and respectful to all “customers” this to include staff, physicians and vendors.
Must be a team player
To be participate in the call rotation, after being thoroughly trained and to report to the hospital within 30 minutes. (Per Diem is exempt)
CBSPD Technician Certification within two years. Renewal of CBSPD certification every 5 years.
Salary : $36,400 - $46,100
