Summary
Plans and administers library services through self and subordinates. Under broad policy guidance and direction
from the North Logan City Mayor and the North Logan Library Board, performs professional and administrative
duties related to planning, organizing, and controlling the operations of the City Library.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
● Coordinates with Facilities Department for maintenance of library facilities and equipment
● Administers board policies; works closely with Library Board to make and implement policy changes
● Develops department budget for approval by Library Board and City Council
● Pursues opportunities for improving the financial status of the library to include grant writing, promoting
donations/contributions, and otherwise obtaining state, federal, or other funds
● Performs general staffing duties including recruitments, hiring, discipline and discharge; coordinates daily
supervision through subordinate supervisor(s)
● Develops and oversees library services, programming, outreach, and community relations
● Oversees the development and maintenance of library collections
● Other duties may be assigned as needed.1
Supervisory Responsibilities
The library director has full supervisory duties of the Library Staff in accordance with North Logan City policies
and procedures. Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising
performance; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Qualifications
● Knowledge of library programs, processes, best practices, and software (ability to learn Koha)
● Experience managing a budget and staff
● Ability to work collaboratively with city staff, board members, and other city departments as needed
● Degree in library science, or similar field, desirable but not required
