North Side Canal Company (NSCC) is actively seeking a Hydroelectric Power Plant Operator in the Hazelton, Idaho area. This position is not like positions in other companies in that a variety of new challenges present themselves due to ever changing issues that arise with the power and water supply industries. NSCC began delivering water to shareholders in 1908 and now delivers water to 155,000 acres of farmland on the north side of the Snake River in Jerome, Gooding, and Elmore counties. Since 1908 the company has evolved over the years to establish the North Side Pumping Company, the North Side Energy Company, and is joint owner in Milner Dam Inc. with Twin Falls Canal Company. Besides overseeing irrigation water delivery, staff manage these companies that pump water, produce and sell electrical energy, and convey Eastern Snake Plain aquifer recharge water for the State of Idaho.
North Side Canal Company, Inc. (NSCC), operates 3 hydroelectric power generation facilities for its subsidiary North Side Energy Company. NSCC is seeking an on-site full-time Power Plant Operator to operate and maintain our Bypass Hydroelectric plant outside of Hazelton, Idaho. Under general direction from existing staff and acting on own initiative and direction, the Power Plant Operator will learn how to operate and maintain a hydroelectric plant and associated equipment, including being responsible for providing safe and efficient hydroelectric plant operations during the summer irrigation season, performing preventative maintenance during the winter non-irrigation season, troubleshooting, and correcting plant equipment problems.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
· Operates and maintains turbines, generators, pumps, and other auxiliary plant equipment.
· Operates and maintains intakes, spillways, trash racks, gates, and other related power plant equipment.
· Operates control systems and monitors power plant equipment.
· Operates control systems and monitors power plant equipment.
· Takes readings of plant processes and maintaining daily records.
· Responds to plant emergencies; troubleshoots plant equipment and takes corrective action.
· Designs, fabricates, assembles, installs, and performs modifications to equipment.
· Maintains compliance with company policies and procedures.
· Performs work safely and brings safety hazards to attention of management.
· Arranges for and coordinates contract work.
· Identifies needed replacement parts and submits purchase requisition.
· Understands cost related to individual performance.
· Perform normal hydro plant housekeeping.
Desirable Qualifications:
· Knowledge of: basic electricity, mechanical and electrical operation, troubleshooting and repair of equipment.
· Skills in: technical aptitude for basic electrical and mechanical principals, basic use of personal computers, demonstrated skills required in adaptability, effective interpersonal communication, contributing to team success, decision making, establish positive working relationships, initiating action, managing work (including time management), quality orientation and safety awareness.
· Ability to: maintain high productivity with minimal supervision, respond to emergencies in excess of normal working hours, comply with on-call requirements (availability, fit for duty, etc.).
· Education: High school diploma or equivalent, prefer trade school or technical training school, and/or experience with electrical equipment, electrical controls and troubleshooting, mechanics, equipment operation, welding and pipefitting.
· Licenses/Certifications: Valid driver's license and be able to pass a pre-employment drug/alcohol screening test.
· Additional Requirements: Must be at least 18 years of age, workweek will include working alternating weekends during generating season, position requires after hours on-call responsibilities on a rotating basis with another operator, and must live within 20 minutes of the power plant to respond to plant emergencies.
· Physical Ability: Perform heavy manual labor; work outdoors in inclement weather. Occasionally lift and carry items weighing up to 75 pounds and rarely up to 100 pounds (i.e., tools, bearings, and bearing covers); frequently kneel and/or crawl in tight areas to perform work in generators; frequently bend or stoop to perform work inside power plant turbines; and perform the essential functions of the position without posing a direct threat of harm to self, others, or property.

· Starting wage $25-$30 per hour depending on level of education, licensing, qualifications, skills, and experience.
