ABOUT THE NORTHERN TEXAS PGA
The Northern Texas PGA (NTPGA) is one of 41 Sections of the PGA of America. Its geographic territory includes the State of Texas north of the 31st latitude, or just north of Austin. The Northern Texas PGA is comprised of approximately 850 PGA members and associates employed at more than 300 facilities. The Northern Texas PGA has 18 full-time staff members and is currently headquartered in Dallas. The Northern Texas PGA will be joining the PGA of America national office relocation to Frisco in 2022 with its own state-of-the-art headquarters on the PGA Frisco campus.
In addition to managing the day-to-day affairs of the Section, the Northern Texas PGA also operates a non-profit and charitable foundation that focuses on five pillars: junior golf, college scholarships, inclusion, fellowships, and military and veterans. The Northern Texas PGA Foundation impacts 10,000 juniors, their families, and veterans annually.
The mission of the Northern Texas PGA is to serve its members and grow the game.

JOB SUMMARY
The Northern Texas PGA is seeking qualified applicants for an internship in golf tournament operations during the spring of 2023. Successful applicants will be responsible for helping conduct all tournament operations of the spring Junior Tour events in West Texas.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Execute pre-tournament responsibilities, such as printing tournament documents, equipment organization, and course set-up
- Administer on-site responsibilities, such as player registration, starting, rules officiating, scoring, and awards presentations
- Effectively communicate with host professional staff, parents, and junior golfers
- Reconcile financial and result summaries
- Manage tournament equipment through inventory and maintenance
- Execute post-tournament responsibilities, including event reports and equipment tear-down
QUALIFICATIONS OF CANDIDATE
Required:
- Pursuing a college degree (third or fourth-year students preferred)
- Has automobile access with willingness and ability to travel across West Texas
- Has existing insurance (through school or parents)
- Exhibits ability to work and communicate effectively in a team-based environment
- General computer literacy (i.e. Microsoft Office, Smartphone Apps)
- Will live in West Texas (Lubbock/Amarillo or Odessa/Midland area) for the duration of the internship
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to work early mornings
- Ability to work outside in extreme weather and temperatures
- Ability to lift objects up to 50 pounds, i.e. tents, tables, stakes, and championship signage
- Ability to safely operate a golf cart
- Ability to stand and move around on foot for extended periods of time
- Ability to speak publicly
- Effectively able to use and operate cell phones, tablets, and hand-held radios
Preferred:
- Basic knowledge of the game and rules of golf
- Interest in a career in golf or sports administration
SPRING TOURNAMENT SCHEDULE
The Junior Tour offers up to two (2) tournament each weekend throughout West Texas. Interns will be responsible for conducting all tournaments from start to finish. Interns will not work on weekdays. On average, West Texas tournament operations interns can expect to work approximately 8-10 hours each day. PLEASE NOTE: Candidates must be able to work most weekends and some weekdays during spring break (March 7-11 or March 14-18).
TOURNAMENT TRAVEL
Tournaments will be located throughout the entire West Texas region. Interns can expect to work a tournament at a different golf course each weekend and will be responsible for their own transportation to and from all tournaments. COMPENSATION
- Interns will be compensated $135 per tournament (before taxes) and $67.50 per day (before taxes) during training
- Interns will be reimbursed for some business travel at current IRS approved rates
- If an overnight stay is required because of a sanctioned tournament, the hotel room will be paid for by the NTPGA
- When an overnight stay is required, the NTPGA will provide a meal allowance
- NTPGA staff uniforms including golf shirts and hats
- School credit (if applicable)
HOUSING
The Northern Texas PGA does not provide housing of any kind.
