Directs the development, integration and administration of policies, services and programs for Risk Management. Collaborates with the CRO in various projects and programs to ensure goals and objectives are accomplished within prescribed time-frame and funding parameters. Supports the CRO within all disciplines in the department.
Job Responsibility
- Leads the Risk Management function by developing leaders and driving programs and initiatives that support and impact the overall Northwell health system goals.
- Develops and articulates a long-term strategic vision for areas of responsibility.
- Collaborates with Chief Risk Officer to manage the Medical Malpractice Program and all facets of insurance procurement including:
- Collaborating with independent actuary on a regular basis to request and review reports.
- Liaising with insurance brokers to adjust coverage as necessary.
- Providing analysis of information such as voluntary attending physician limits etc.
- Assists Chief Risk Officer in all facets of insurance procurement and risk management:
- Assessing need and risk versus reward cost analysis, analysis of insurance product and negotiations with broker and carriers.
- Identifies, assesses and weighs risk, working with related corporate departments (i.e. Legal, Finance, Facilities, Procurement, FPP etc.). Reviews contracts and designs insurance provisions.
- Oversees project management for division:
- Reviews project plans to determine time-frame, funding limitations, procedures, participant requirements and allotment of resources to various phases of the project.
- Establishes work plan and participants for each project phase and arranges for recruitment or assignment of project staff.
- Confers with project participants to outline work plan and assign duties, responsibilities and scope of authority.
- Manages activities of project participants to ensure project progress on schedule and within budget.
- Reviews status reports and modifies schedules and/or plans, as required.
- Prepares and presents project reports for management, clients or others.
- Confers with project participants to provide technical advice and resolve problems.
- Manages project activities with organizations or agencies outside the Health System.
- Collaborates with Chief Risk Officer on various projects (i.e. ERM, selection of data management systems, etc.) and operational oversight insurance companies.
- Supports all areas of responsibility within the department:
- Steps in as needed to mentor and/or assist
- Represents CRO as needed at meetings, presentations, conference calls.
- Identifies opportunities for cost reductions and efficiencies and works with dept team leaders to realize.
- Recommends and ensures implementation of and adherence to approved operating goals, objectives and budget. Reports operational performance, justification and/or corrective action. Manages annual budgets preparation (departmental, premium, and for 2 captives).
- Develops and oversees implementation of current and long-term Human Resources goals and objectives for organizational development, recruiting, compensation, training and development and employee relations. Selects, develops, manages and evaluates direct reports to meet operational needs.
- Ensures implementation, evaluation and maintenance of operating policies, procedures and processes.
- Builds and maintains productive intra-departmental work relationships to optimize operations.
- Collaborates with Ambulatory Services on physician on-boarding process.

Job Qualification
- Master's Degree required, or equivalent combination of education and related experience.
- 10-12 years of relevant experience and 7 years of leadership / management experience, required.
