What are the responsibilities and job description for the Support Room Assistant position at Northwest R-1 School District?
JOB SUMMARY:
To assist in providing an appropriate well organized program for special education students who require special needs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Additional duties may be assigned.
Assists building in:Maintaining classroom organization.
Managing students.
Preparing teaching materials.
Implementing policies, rules and/or regulations.
Implementing Behavior Plans of assigned students.
Adheres to district policies and departmental, building and classroom procedures.
Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students.
Maintains confidentiality of information about students.
Meets or escorts students at designated times.
Paraprofessionals assigned to individual students will meet the needs of the student as outlined in the I.E.P.
Performs medical, educational, physical, behavioral, and personal care tasks requiring specialized training for assigned students.
Critical needs status will be determined by the Director of Student Services.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
60 hours of college credit and/or have passed the Paraprofessional Praxis (ParaPro Assessment can be taken after your are hired) Excellent human relation skills.
Experience with young people is
Prior experience in a school setting is desired.
Experience with educational applications (i.e., copying machine and computer skills) is desired.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS:
Ability to communicate, both verbally and in writing, and interact effectively with all aspects of the school community is required.
Ability to solve conflicts, maintain confidentiality and remain open to various ideas and viewpoints.
MATHMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations using whole numbers, fractions, decimals, and percentages.
Ability to perform mathematical calculations to balance assigned budget items, invoices, bills, purchase orders and other related items.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines while complying with established policies and procedures of the building and district.
Identifies and resolve problems in a timely manner, gathers and analyzes information skillfully; uses reason even when dealing with emotional topics.
Ability to concentrate, think, read and learn is necessary to perform the essential job duties.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee must regularly sit, talk, listen, and respond. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use repetitive wrist, hand and/or finger movement; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand and walk. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, precise hand-eye coordination and the ability to identify and distinguish colors. Occasionally, the employee may lift up to 50 pounds, such as, to lift files, papers, and equipment.
