Dean or Director of Graduate Studies and Adult Learning

Northwestern College seeks a leader for its growing Graduate Studies and Adult Learning division (GSAL). Exact title will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. The division leader will bring experience in supporting adult learners in both face-to-face and online environments, as well as a systematic and data-informed approach to new program growth and high-quality service to students. The division leader, reporting to the vice president for academic affairs, supervises the GSAL operations staff, all GSAL academic program directors, and the division’s faculty. The division leader develops strategic direction for the division, oversees operations and marketing activities, and works across the college to foster a collaborative approach to serving adult students.

About the Graduate Studies and Adult Learning Division (GSAL)

Since 2013, the division has grown from enrolling 30 students to nearly 600. These students learn primarily, but not exclusively, in online environments. Program offerings include master’s degrees in education (eight tracks) and physician assistant studies, as well as graduate-level education endorsements and certificates. Undergraduate degree-completion programs in early childhood education and nursing are also offered. Certificates in legal and medical interpreting have recently been added, and master’s degree programs in school and clinical mental health counseling are under development. The division employs a highly effective team of six professional enrollment staff and retains a highly qualified and committed group of 11 dedicated full-time faculty, as well as additional shared faculty and adjuncts. The division is relocating to a new office space in the central college administration building. Northwestern is well positioned to resource ongoing program and enrollment growth in this division.

Required Qualifications include academic credentials appropriate to higher education and experience in developing programs for online and/or on-campus adult students. As an intentionally Christian college (member of the CCCU), Northwestern seeks a leader who exhibits a love of Christ, an embrace of the Gospel, and support the college’s mission as expressed in our Statement of Christian Identity, Vision for Learning and Vision for Diversity. Northwestern College is affiliated with the Reformed Church in America.

Preferred Qualifications: Preferred candidates will have a terminal degree in their discipline, significant and sequentially increasing responsibility for program development and leadership, an understanding of the needs of adult students and strategies to market programs to them, and experience with assessment and management of an online teaching and learning operation.

Northwestern College seeks to more fully reflect the cultural and ethnic diversity of the body of Christ in its faculty, staff, administration and students. Women and candidates from historically underrepresented groups are enthusiastically encouraged to apply.
