Responsibilities
Working under routine supervision, performs a variety of receptionist and clerical duties in compliance with regulatory and HIPAA requirements, cultural sensitivity guidelines, infection control requirements, and NKDH organizational and nursing values, policies, and procedure, including but not limited to:
- Non-clinical duties related to admissions, transfers, and discharges
- Ability to maintain calm in emergency situations
- Maintains department supply inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed supplies; placing and expediting orders for supplies; verifying receipt of supplies
- Maintains supply of necessary forms for use during computer downtime and accurately maintains the downtime version of the ED log
- Utilizes excellent customer service standards and Studer principles in communicating with patient, family and coworkers through use of verbal amenities, pleasant facial and body expressions as well as pleasant voice tone (i.e. to greet visitors, provide directions upon transfer to another facility)
- Facilitates communication within the department, relaying appropriate information timely and accurately
- Clerical support activities to assure efficiency and provide support to clinical staff as requestedMay answer patient call lights and assist with transport of patients as requested by the Emergency Department RN utilizing proper technique when lifting, transferring, and ambulating patients for safety of self, patient, and other staff
- Ensures work areas are clean and orderly
- Participates in departmental QAPI process and patient experience initiatives
- May be asked to assist with patient care or to perform routine job duties

Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent.
Previous hospital secretarial experience and/or knowledge of medical terminology strongly preferred.
Required:
- Ability to set priorities, organize tasks, and manage a high workload within a limited timeframe
- Ability to maintain concentration when subjected to frequent and varied interruptions
- Good communication and computer skills
- Ability to use fax, phone, copier
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
- Accountable for own actions, personal growth and skill development, and seeks advice and assistance when necessary
- Obtains AHA BLS within one year of employment and maintains certification.
