Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated Registered Nurse to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will have experience in various medical settings and possess a strong passion for patient care.
The employee occupying this position is responsible and accountable for the supervision of professional, sub-professional and non-professional employees. Assuring that the physical and psychosocial health care of the geriatric resident and that the overall facility goals of maintaining a safe and therapeutic environment are met at all times.
This employee works under the control and supervision of the Director of Nursing through the Assistant Director of Nursing.
Must be a Registered Nurse who is licensed and eligible to practice in Pennsylvania.
Must be at least 21 years of age.
Must have at least one year of experience or education in nursing service administration and / or supervision.
Must have at least two years experience in geriatric nursing.
Must possess leadership ability and the willingness to cooperate with other department heads.
Must have patience, tact and be able to handle residents based on whatever maturity level they are currently functioning.
Must have the ability to organize, plan and direct nursing functions.
Must demonstrate personal integrity and emotional stability.
Must be able to function independently and with flexibility.
Must be able to lift 70 lbs. on an intermittent basis with the expected frequency during a normal work day of five to twenty-five lifts. Must also be able to withstand sudden stresses caused by sharp unexpected resident movements.
Ability to work beyond normally scheduled hours in the event of an unforeseen condition.

1. Gives and receives report from on-coming / off-going supervisor. Makes rounds of both nursing stations to communicate with charge nurses and ensure all resident needs and conditions are addressed.
2. Develop and prepare work schedules for all staff on the tour of duty for which you are supervisor to comply with D & H regulations.
3. Monitor staff schedules making necessary adjustments to provide adequate staffing in keeping with regulatory measures.
4. Maintain information on staff pertinent to commendations, evaluations and discipline.
5. Supervise and evaluate work performance of staff. Counsel and discipline employees as required.
6. Maintain a knowledge of and adhere to facility chain of command for communication of complaints and grievances.
7. Investigate, assess and evaluate any complaints regarding resident care. Document and communicate to the Director of Nursing / Assistant Director of Nursing.
8. Encourage and assist charge nurses in developing problem solving techniques in resident care, employee relations and guest relations.
9. Oversee and assist when necessary with admissions, readmissions and discharges. Ensure completeness of all information.
10. Complete supervisors daily report, include all pertinent information.
11. Assist with physician rounds. Monitor and implement necessary changes in resident care plans.
12. Monitor nursing units for compliance with infection control regulations, safety / accident prevention, resident care policies and provide guidance where necessary.
13. Work closely with the Quality Assurance /Risk Manager and LPN’s in the monitoring and maintenance of resident records. (i.e.: quarterly chart audit, organization and completeness of closed record, etc.).
14. Complete forms required by state and federal regulations (i.e.: Medicare – Medicaid).
15. Work with charge nurses and LPN’s, acting as a role model so as to ensure quality resident care.
16. Assist the charge nurses and LPN’s with resident care planning and implementation of rehabilitative /restorative nursing measures. Assist in providing for the spiritual, psychological, and social needs of residents.
17. Communicate with families concerning residents.
18. Assure that department personnel, residents visitors, etc. follow established policies and procedures at all times.
19. Interpret department policies and procedures to personnel, residents, visitors, family members as necessary.
20. Ensure that resident rights to fair and equitable treatment, self determination, individuality, privacy, confidentiality, property and civil rights, including the right to wage a complaint, are well established and maintained at all times.
21. Assist with on-the-job-training and orientation of new personnel.
22. Assist nursing assistants as necessary.
23. Perform other related duties and special assignments (ie. LPN and CNA assignments) under the direction of the immediate supervisor in order to provide optimal level of resident care
24. Maintain an excellent working relationship with members of the medical profession.
25. Participate in the resident assessment (MDS) process and development of interdisciplinary resident care plans.
26. Participate in supervisor and staff meeting.
27. Participate in all in-service programs and attend out-service programs that enhance your job responsibilities.
28. Assist Medical Assistance surveyors and Department of Health surveyors in their survey of the facility as requested by Assistant Director of Nursing / Director of Nursing.
29. Participate on committees as assigned. Assist in developing and maintaining nursing objectives and standards, developing, implementing and coordinating department policies and procedures, nursing procedure manual, job descriptions, etc.
30. All nursing staff is required to occasionally rotate their shifts. As needed, all nursing staff may be scheduled on opposing shifts when a scheduling need may arise
