What are the responsibilities and job description for the Camp Counselor position at NOVA Parks?
Camp Counselors are highly motivated individuals that are responsible for the daily supervision, daily activity planning and implementation, safety, and group management of campers. Work is done under the general supervision of the Camp Coordinator, Lead Counselor or Full Time Park Staff.
Pay Rate: $15.00 per hour
Major Duties/Specific Tasks
- Prepares and presents programs, crafts, games, and other outdoor educational activities.
- Interprets and works with facility features that may include: animals, gardens, water features, trails, etc.
- Works to provide a safe and fun learning environment for campers.
- Provides basic first aid as needed.
- Works as a counselor and co-leader of Summer Day Camps for rising kindergarteners through 10th graders.
- Assists with preparation, cleaning, maintenance, and organization of camp areas and supplies.
- Performs other park duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- At least 6 months experience with children in a structured setting or programs.
- At least one year of college education in some natural resource field, parks and recreation, or education field (or equivalent training and experience) preferred.
- Ability to work in the outdoors and inclement weather conditions for long periods of time.
- Ability to participate in physical activities that may include, but are not limited to hiking over hilly terrain, water paddle tours, gardening, games.
- Ability to obtain First Aid/CPR/AED training.
- Ability to communicate effectively with adults and children.
- Must have reliable transportation.
- Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with co-workers, campers, and work as a team.
- Ability and desire to learn skills and information related to job.
- Ability to pass a criminal background check.
