Carbon Reduction Senior Engineer

Position Overview

The Novelis Global Research and Technology Center is seeking a Senior Engineer – Carbon Reduction. The person in this role will report to the ERASE Lead (Energy Reduction And Sustainable Engineering), within R&D New Domains.  Acting as the Subject Matter Expert (SME), the ideal candidate will be responsible for leading sustainable engineering pilot project execution within R&D by developing technology landscapes, evaluating cutting edge technologies, and executing the piloting of these technologies to provide Operations, Energy Management and Global Sustainability teams with technologically sound and field-proven solutions to implement globally in Novelis operations.  The Sr. Engineer must have a wide breadth of technical knowledge balanced by the ability to drill deep to core science and system capabilities. Technology focus areas include, but are not limited to, Carbon Capture, Waste Reduction, Energy Management, and Water Reduction.   

Responsibilities & Qualifications

Responsibilities: 

• Technical Lead for Carbon Capture & Conversion 

• Act as Carbon Capture SME 
• Perform deep dive technology assessments 
• Coordinate 3rd Party Technical Consultants and Data Collection 

• Technical Risk Assessments. 

• Coordination of technical efforts internally and via R&D Ecosystem 

• Coordinate ERASE efforts with new and existing facilities, world-class research institutes and collaborative external partners 

• Collaboration with Novelis NetZero Lab Valais & support the potential setup of a NetZero Lab in the US 

• Facilitate sharing of technical assessments, risk assessments, feasibility studies, etc.  Leverage science and technology adoption and acceleration of initiatives. 

• Technical Scoping 

• Identify and protect technical scope for ERASE initiatives inside New Domains as well as Novelis North America Operations (with potential to scale globally) 

• Technical Resource Management 

• Develop and manage necessary lab resources, external tools and expertise, and manage technical budget requests 

Minimum Qualifications: 

• BS in Engineering or Science (Mechanical, Chemical, Material) 
• 10 yrs experience on sustainability technology selection for industry 
• Scientific and technology mindset 
• Independent and driven 

Preferred Qualifications:  

• Masters in Engineering or Science 
• Passion for sustainability or circular economy.  
• Strong Project Management skills
