Job Description This position provides support to the NREL Campus Facilities CAD Department and works on multiple projects concurrently at NREL’s two main research campuses; South Table Mountain and the National Wind Technology Site. The CAD Operator will provide drafting/design support to the engineering team and project managers using AutoCAD software, ensuring that the multi-discipline documents prepared meet all criteria of the NREL CAD Manual. Responsibilities: Proficient use of CAD software to create detailed drawings that include dimensions, procedures and required materials. Uses views and angles to show the association between systems and components. Coordinates the collection of data and incorporates such information into drawings, maps and schematics, while consulting with engineers, architects, project managers and other workers involved to prepare and present drawings. Works closely with the engineering, scientific, and design teams to ensure effective project coordination. Takes care of complex drafting and designing assignments and reviews drawings for accuracy and completeness. Maintains all revisions of project drawings. Organizes and maintains project drawings, files, and related information. Creates drawings and models from verbal and written specifications that are obtained from the project engineer. Examines and checks engineering drawings to comply with cited specifications. Conducts drawing reviews as appropriate for completeness and accuracy. Works with engineers regarding drafting standards, model design and accuracy, and design documentation. Performs quality reviews, trouble shoots and assists with AutoCAD program. Completes project responsibilities within scope, schedule and budget. Works under minimal or no supervision. Review vendor drawings and support construction, project checkout and startup. Follow all ESH&Q policies and procedures to ensure and maintain a safe working environment. . Basic Qualifications High School Diploma and 7 or more years of experience or equivalent relevant in drafting/CAD experience Or, relevant Associate's Degree in CAD, Drafting or related or certification program of comparable scope and 5 or more years of experience n drafting/CAD experience . Additional Required Qualifications Strong attention to detail and organizational skills to produce drawings and plans that are organized, clear, easy to read and technically accurate AutoCAD proficiency Ability to read construction drawings Ability to work in a cost-effective, customer-focused, team-based environment Effective time management and organizational skills Extensive knowledge in specialized focused business support functions A comprehensive understanding of both general and specific aspects of business support activities, and their practical application to a wide variety of problems and situations specific to the discipline or field supported Advanced skills in applicable software packages and office equipment Considerable project administration and business services skills Broad knowledge of specific principles, procedures, and practices related to supported fields and disciplines Excellent written and verbal communication skills, team and interpersonal skills Preferred Qualifications Revit skills Ability to work on multi-disciplined projects as needed Ability to field verify drawing information as needed Experience working in a National Lab setting is preferred . Annual Salary Range (based on full-time 40 hours per week) Job Profile: Specialist IV / Annual Salary Range: $60,400 - $99,700 NREL takes into consideration a candidate’s education, training, and experience, as well as the position's work location, expected quality and quantity of work, required travel (if any), external market and internal value, including seniority and merit systems, and internal pay alignment when determining the salary level for potential new employees.
