Job Description
Arranges for the efficient and orderly admission of inpatients or outpatients. Ensures that accurate patient information is collected and that patients know hospital policies and procedures. Responds to job functions relating to orderly information communication between hospital and third-party payors.
COMPLETES PATIENT REGISTRATION PROCESS ACURRATELY AND IN A TIMELY MANNER.
- Register scheduled and walk-in outpatients.
- Register direct and emergency room admissions.
- Checks patients in using the computer patient tracker and checks the patient to the department when completed by registration.
- Gather necessary demographic, insurance information, and any other pertinent billing information.
- Runs eligibility on all available insurance plans.
- Completes admission/registration interviews consistent with current department policies.
- Inputs patient information into the computer system.
- Completes consent, notice of privacy, advance directive, and family access forms as required.
- Routes forms and face sheets to the appropriate department.
- Armbands all patients before they leave registration unless pre-registered for surgery.
- Scan forms and insurance cards into the computer
- Completes Medicare secondary payer questionnaire, screens walk-in patients for Medicare
- Advance Beneficiary Notices and provides Important Message from Medicare notice to all Medicare patients.
- Distributes Patient Handbooks to patients who have invasive procedures or are sent to the floor.
- Distribute pagers to the surgery patient’s family.
- Orders appropriate radiology tests for walk-in outpatients.
- Verify a diagnosis is on order or refer to Registration LLP for follow-up.
- Scans and deletes orders in reg fax as needed.
- Accepts information from a case manager or house supervisor and completes admission/registration using the physician’s admitting order. Maintains a log of all admissions.
- Screens patients who are having op tests or procedures for medication reconciliation as required.
- Escort patients to departments.
- Pre-print patient routing slips and face sheets for future days.
- Respect and protect patient's desire for anonymity and documents in the patient information system
- Follows HIPAA guidelines and distributes the Notice of Privacy Practices.
SUPPORT MEDICAL CENTER GOALS AND POLICIES WHILE CONTINUALLY STRIVING FOR IMPROVEMENT:
- Courteously answers telephone calls. Routes calls or takes accurate messages as appropriate.
- Assists patients in understanding their insurance benefits if such information is available. Refers all unanswered questions to Patient Account Representatives (PAR) and/or pre-certification department.
- Abides by policies outlined in the Department and Administrative manual. Utilizes cost containment measures effectively and appropriately using time and supplies.
- Attends monthly staff meetings and required services and/or orientations.
- Provides privacy during the registration process. Greets and makes patients comfortable while registering them for hospital services. Provides an escort of patients to their room or service department as needed. Explain hospital policies, including parking, personal items, and visitation. Documents pertinent information through event reporting.
- Demonstrates strong, sincere customer service skills. Is responsive to our patients, families, employees, and Physicians. Administers the health care needs of the people and community we serve.
QUALITY IMPROVEMENT
- Completes other assignments as requested by departmental management and or lead registration clerk.
- Monitors patient wait times, checks insurance cards in PI for entry accuracy, completes inpatient signatures, and cross-trains for ED registration.
