The Test Engineering Manager is a customer-focused and results-oriented role that will oversee the Test Engineering team, responsible for validating functionality for Nutrien’s digital platform. They will provide direct and ongoing leadership, participate in strategic roadmap development, mentor and provide career guidance to direct reports, cultivate a positive culture, and deliver customer value by meeting release milestones.
The Test Engineering Manager will collaborate across organizational boundaries partnering with Product Management, User Experience and Research, Architecture, and Regional Adoption Leads. Collectively, these partners are jointly responsible for strategic planning and guiding the development and implementation of the Digital Hub. Additionally, this role collaborates with Customer Support, Release Management, and Cloud Engineering to coordinate feedback, bug triage, release viability and infrastructure efforts as needed.
The right candidate will have experience driving software testing recommendations, implementing test solutions, creating process improvements and resources throughout the organization, and being actively engaged in the development process.
What you will do:
- Lead a team of test engineers while helping to create a culture of high performance using Digital Guiding Principles
- Deliver exceptional software testing and test results by mentoring team leads, and individual contributors, on Quality Assurance and software testing best practices
- Partner with Product Management, UX Development, Cloud Engineering, Architecture and other business stakeholders to deliver testing tied to product roadmaps and release schedules
- Identify and communicate test project status, defined metrics, software risks, and release defect trends within squads. Work with others to help triage, escalate, prioritize or resolve issues
- Oversee implementation of metrics measurement and report on metrics KPIs to executive key team members
- Develop strong relationships with business and technology stakeholders
- Champion Agile methodologies including the Scrum framework
- Leverage Agile practices to create repeatable and predictable software releases
- Ensures test engineering participation in all scrum rituals including stand ups, sprint planning, refinement, and retrospectives
- Oversee programs and solutions that build software testing process improvements
- Provide people ownership for team members, including hiring, setting and monitoring of annual performance plans, coaching, motivating, rewarding, and career development
- Advance the development of engineering standards, employee onboarding guides, product documentation, and engineering documentation
- Proactively identify opportunities for process improvement and cost reductions. Care for test engineering tools licenses and subscriptions
- Care for headcount, deliverables, schedules, and costs for multiple ongoing projects, ensuring that resources are appropriately allocated, and that goals, objectives, timelines, and budgets are met in accordance with organizational roadmaps
- Scale teams that mix veteran team members eager for new challenges and new team members looking to grow their skill sets
- Care for relationships with strategic partners and suppliers, including setting expectations regarding deliverables, product quality, schedules, and costs. Ensure that team members are effectively communicating and collaborating with these third-party resources
What you will bring:
- Bachelor’s Degree required, preferably in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field; experience may be considered in lieu of a degree
- 10 years of related experience required, preferably in Quality Assurance and Test Development with an emphasis on managing Test Projects
- 1 year in a stakeholder role required; 5 years preferred; experience leading teams of 12 members conducting software development preferred
- Experience working on projects that span multiple business units, serving multiple stakeholders
- Scrum or other Agile framework experience including guiding Scrum teams, familiarity with scrum ceremonies and use of scrum artifacts to plan and predict software deliveries – Scrum Master Certification is a plus
- Senior-level experience in functional, regression, system, boundary, data integrity, exploratory, performance, API, compatibility, usability, reliability, portability, security, & UI validation testing
- Experience in manual and automated testing with a focus on test-oriented development resources and methodologies: TDD or BDD, API validation, JavaScript validation, code repository management (GitHub), test case management systems (Zephyr Squad), data testing tools, & Jira
- Applied Critical Thinking; able to discern best processes devising solutions for effective testing with limited timeframes
- Savvy knowledge of QA methodologies, QA best practices, & software development processes
- Familiarity with one or more of the following: React Native, Node.js, CSS, Python, REST APIs, JavaScript, TypeScript, BrowserStack. Experience with microservice architecture, BDD and CI/CD pipelines
Compensation & Benefits:
Salary Range: $114,400-$157,300. This range is estimated for the Manager, Test Engineering position in Loveland, Colorado. Actual salary and benefits may differ based upon location.
