Mechanical Engineer I (MEP)

We are recruiting a Mechanical Engineer to work with more senior staff members in the development of plans and specifications on a number of concurrent design projects. They will apply engineering theories and concepts and solve engineering problems using experience, judgment, and education.

The pay range for this position in New York City is $60,000 - $90,000 annually; however, base pay offered may be higher or lower depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience of the candidate. Restricted stock units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered. • Perform engineering calculations as well as operate different software packages related to various portions of the design package such as ventilation, heating and cooling load calculations and equipment sizing, as directed by more senior staff members.
• Perform entry level professional engineering tasks in own discipline under the supervision of more senior staff members in order to develop design documents including drawings and specifications.
• May obtain field data by conducting field visits with other team members to project sites both in state and out of state. Documents existing conditions. May require overnight travel.
• With support from other team members, attempt to solve engineering problems using knowledge obtained from education and experience as well as reasoning.
• May communicate with clients or architects to resolve issues with engineering designs.
• Solves standard engineering problems.
• Obtain knowledge of building codes and stay current with building code changes.
• Performs equipment takeoffs for cost estimating purposes.
• Works with more senior engineers to determine the most appropriate concept for the engineering system being design or re-designed.
• May take other engineers’ rough plan mark-ups and creates final design documents.
• Using knowledge of the kinds of projects the firm designs, is able to specify portions of the engineering system from catalogs or other resources. This typically involves the application of special knowledge to design effective engineering solutions.
• Be able to design and layout routine portions of a project using Revit, AutoCAD MEP, or other means.
• Perform BIM/CAD functions proficiently in mechanical discipline and will use Revit and/or AutoCAD MEP software to transfer design concepts to a format acceptable to the client, architect and/or construction company in accordance with NV5 standards.

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, from an ABET-accredited engineering program, with some cooperative educational experience. In the absence of a BSME, may consider applicants with equivalent combination of work experience and education.
• Must have an understanding of the engineering principles in the discipline he/she is designing.
• Must be proficient in the operation of a computer and AutoCAD/Revit.
• Formal training in Revit/AutoCAD MEP preferred or commensurate experience.
• Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• EIT Preferred.
