Job Description
OVERVIEW
The Workshop Technician supports the global strategy of the Molding Compounds Medical market segment and the regional strategy of the Molding Compounds Region Americas (RAM) market for continued growth and success. This position is involved in daily material processing and sample preparation to support existing products and new product development. This person will work in a state-of-the-art R&D lab and will interact frequently with lab managers, Scientists, and Engineers to contribute to great team success.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Act with high safety awareness and behavior-based safety to create a safe work environment and ensure full compliance of company safety policy and standards
- Work on material processing, involving blending and compounding with blender, twin- and single screw extruders
- Support lab and customer specimen preparation with injection molding, compression molding, film extrusion, etc.
- Work with Process Engineer to conduct process trouble shooting and optimization
- Perform routine tooling changes and modifications including equipment set-up, change overs and calibration.
- Perform routine maintenance on lab equipment and auxiliary parts
- Run experiments, collect data on procedure and equipment parameters, and effectively communicate with project engineers and scientists
- Participate and contribute to continuous improvement projects to enhance lab operation efficiency
- Support facility housekeeping, raw material inventory management, and other daily lab activities
- Other projects and duties as assigned or needed
Qualifications
REQUIREMENTS
- High school degree required, post-secondary technical training is preferred
- 1~3 years of manufacturing, R&D or related experience in the chemical or Materials industry is required
- Previous experience with plastic compounding, extrusion, and injection molding is highly preferred
- Ability to manage and complete multiple projects within deadlines
- Ability to work productively either alone or in a team environment
- Good software skills with Microsoft Office Suite and Minitab. SAP experience a plus.
- Quality and safety mindset.
- Proficient in writing standard work instructions.
- Preferred experience in a regulated environment and adhering to GLP and GDP.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work well in an environment with diverse cultures
- Good attendance record is required
