General Mine Foreman (Middle Tennessee Mines)

THE ROLE

The purpose of this job is to optimize the safe extraction of ore and waste at the Nyrstar Tennessee Mine operation through the supervision and control of mining department employees and contractors – within the constraints of agreed capital and operating budgets, and the mine plan and scheduling. Assist the Operations Superintendent and Operations team to ensure the mine production and development activities are achieved to plan specifications, by assisting with driving ongoing change in levels of safety, productivity, cost and quality to promote continuous improvements.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Safety, Health, Environment and Community

• Promote and demonstrate safe behavior at all times and take responsibility for safety and health of all Nyrstar personnel under their area of control.
• Ensure that all operations personnel follow the company’s policies, procedures, standards for work and safety, and the MSHA Regulations for MNM Mines.
• Weekly safety and workplace audits per agreed upon schedule with Mine Superintendent

Operations

• Drive all mining standards and ensure they are being followed accurately
• Ensure day to day scheduling and control of the functional mine site ore production, development and rehab activities per the weekly plan.
• Ensure all work is effectively planned, resourced, and undertaken in a safe manner
• Ensure all mining consumables are being used in cost-effective manner
• Monitor daily KPIs and implement changes to ensure safety, production and cost targets are met
• Oversee daily shiftlogs for accuracy and completeness
• Inspect headings and conduct ground control policy (GPC) audits as required
• Conduct daily WPI, Pre-op and equipment greasing audits
• Ensure equipment washing schedule is adhered to
• Assist in ensuring accidents and incidents are investigated and reported accurately and timely
• Fill in Superintendent
• Present for Weekly Planning Ride Arounds.
• Participate in MSHA Inspections
• Ensure continuous coaching of supervisors
• Other tasks as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE

• B.Sc. in Mining Engineering or equivalent experience
• Minimum 18 months experience in supervision of mining operations.
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in underground hard rock mining.
• Class C foreman’s license required
• Understanding of technical and operating processes relevant to mine planning and scheduling.
• Having a blasting license will be an added advantage
