Job Description
ELECTRICAL MATERIALS BUYER
As a Buyer for our Procurement team, you will play a critical role in purchasing materials, equipment, supplies and services for our project management teams to efficiently support customers across New York State and regions of the Northeast. This position requires strong critical thinking to coordinate purchase requisitions, issue and analyze quote and bid requests, and act as a liaison between our Project Managers and vendors.
Responsibilities:
This position will include performing various functions including, but are not limited to, the following:
- Manage transactional, tactical, and commodity-based purchases.
- Work with Project Managers to determine quote list and provide final pricing once commodity items have been negotiated.
- Write and distribute RFQ's for commodity items required for specific projects.
- Negotiate and procure electrical materials for multiple jobs in multiple locations.
- Ensure materials are acquired at the lowest cost while considering quality, reliability, and urgency.
- Review requisition and delivery receipt for accuracy and resolve any discrepancies.
- Manage freight claims and product return/credit process.
- Work with Accounts Payable department to ensure accurate and timely payment of invoices and directly with vendors to resolve invoice disputes.
- Monitor supplier inventory in order to comply with ongoing stocking requirements of commodity items.
- Assist with maintaining material certification, insurance certificates, confidentiality agreements, submittal packages,
O&M documentation, and other relevant company and/or project documents.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of four years buying/selling experience in the commercial electrical or utility industry.
- Prior experience purchasing utility, power line, or substation materials desired.
- Effective communication skills with peers and field personnel both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
- Proficient computer skills including MS Office suite of products.
- Effective organizational skills including the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Must be able to work in a schedule-driven environment where timing is a critical function.
- Proven negotiation and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
