What are the responsibilities and job description for the Vice President, U.S. Private Debt position at Oaktree Capital Management, L.P.?
Oaktree established the U.S. Private Debt strategy in 2001 as a step-out of the U.S. High Yield Bond strategy, calling on Oaktree’s expertise in sub-investment-grade lending, private equity and, when needed, restructuring. The U.S. Private Debt strategy seeks to achieve attractive, risk-adjusted absolute returns by originating or participating in the syndication of performing debt issued privately by U.S. borrowers. Initially focused on mezzanine financings, the strategy has evolved to direct lending which includes directly originated senior loans. Responsibilities Responsibilities include: Leading and managing all stages of the deal process across a variety of industries, including industry research and analysis, business, accounting and legal due diligence; negotiating and structuring investment terms and financing commitments, negotiating agreements and post-close deal monitoring; Private Equity Sponsor and Intermediary coverage Managing relationships with accounting professionals, attorneys, consultants and bankers; Monitoring portfolio companies; Managing and mentoring junior associates; Qualifications 6-8 years investment experience with at least 3-4 in mezzanine or direct lending strategies or funds; Demonstrated competency in transaction execution including successfully managing all stages of a directly originated investment: credit analysis, due diligence, company valuations, preparing investment memorandums, leading negotiations, structuring financing, credit and equity documentation and closing the deal; Experience in private equity sponsor coverage; Exceptional skills in analyzing investment opportunities, market information and company financials; Proven ability to understand various deal structures.
