Oasis Systems has an exciting opportunity for a Machinist/Specialist located at Edwards AFB, CA.
LOCATION: Edwards AFB, CA
JOB STATUS: Full-Time
TRAVEL:
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- 10 years machining experience, including manual and CNC mill and lathe
- Experience machining a variety of materials, including assorted metals, ceramics, plastics, etc.
- Experience diagnosing and performing basic maintenance of both manual and CNC mill and lathe and assorted accessories
- Experience with safe use of hand and power tools
- Ability and desire to learn new techniques and skills
- Must be a U.S. citizen
- Must be able to pass a background check/security clearance
- Must be able to pass drug screening
SECURITY CLEARANCE: Secret (U.S. Citizenship is required for all applicants)
EDUCATION: Vocational
CERTIFICATIONS:
EXPERIENCE LEVEL: Experienced (Non-Manager)
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS:
- Significant experience machining less common materials (tungsten, molybdenum, MACOR and other ceramics, etc.)
- Experience and/or certification in driving fork lift
- Experience working with and/or transporting energetic materials and energetic/hazardous waste
- Experience welding stainless steel and other metals, including on small scale parts (1/4" pipe fittings, etc.)
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Full-time position at the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL), Edwards AFB, CA
- Provide a “one stop shop” for machining and parts fabrication support. This will include machining/welding/fabricating most parts using in-house skills and equipment. When a needed capability is not available, interface with other AFRL shops or external shops to get parts made.
- Collaborate with engineers and scientists in an R&D environment on various projects in space technology development
- Provide general Specialist/Technician/Mechanic support as needed
- Work with engineers in an R&D environment to determine needs/requirements for custom components
- Iterate and optimize part design and machining/fabrication processes as needed, in a collaborative R&D environment
- Inspect parts (as needed during fabrication, and upon completion) to ensure quality, tolerance, and requirements goals are met
- Maintain rough/estimated schedule for parts completion
- Identify and source needed tooling and raw materials
- Fabricate/machine custom parts and components from a variety of materials
- Support shop maintenance as well as maintenance of other mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems in and around the lab
- Work with and train engineers and others learning to safely perform simple machining and fabrication tasks themselves
- Work with engineers and others to ensure they provide accurate drawings/instructions of the parts they need
- Collaborate with other machinists, welders, etc. as needed to utilize the range of skills and machines/tools available at the AFRL work site
- Support maintenance of work vehicles (two pick-up trucks), primarily by monitoring for maintenance needs and working with the Business Support Team to schedule and facilitate maintenance or repairs at dealerships or other retail facilities.

Salary Range:
Estimated $65,000 USD - $100,000 USD
