What are the responsibilities and job description for the Field Engineer position at Ocado Group?
Within Ocado Group sits Platform Implementation, whose mission is ‘to orchestrate the implementation of Ocado’s platforms globally’. This department focuses on the full programme management life cycle of the implementation of our highly automated, multi-million pound Customer Fulfilment Centres (CFCs) - from pre-deal, through to the design, construction, installation, testing and ‘go-live’ phases (with all the process and portfolio management in between). This department is instrumental in ensuring we deliver these CFCs on time, to budget, and to the specific requirements of each client.
The Field Engineering team within the Product Application Engineering department in Platform Implementation looks after product issue support and 1st line investigation on-site across OSP sites.
We're looking for a Field Engineer to join the team - to work closely with Product Engineering Specialists on all in-field activities during the manufacturing, install and commissioning phases of new CFCs - maintaining in-depth, practical product knowledge across all products (both developed in-house and externally sourced). This position is accountable for resolving any and all engineering issues on-site, providing valuable feedback to the Head Office based team - making it an integral role in ensuring our CFCs are delivered smoothly.
This role requires extensive travelling in Europe and internationally.
What will you be doing?....
- Ensuring Manufacturing/Supply Chain teams have all that is required to enable them to work up any required quality/supply chain related issue
- Ensuring Product Engineering Specialists have all that is required to enable them to work up any required product change request
- Sending Field mark ups of product documentation (drawings, manuals, guides, checklists etc.) in a timely and clear manner to technical support colleagues
- Providing direct engineering product support as required, ensuring issues are appropriately resolved both in the immediate and at root cause
- Reporting of field visits, ensuring product issues are formally communicated back to technical support colleagues
- Delivering the roll out of workpacks either directly or through managed subcontract resource
- Supporting wider teams with installation & commissioning expertise and advice, ensuring best practice is followed and understood
- Working closely with our Product Development colleagues to receive new products and developments, being actively engaged with early field deliveries of new products to ensure successful handover to wider Product Application Engineering team
- Working to and following all CDM (or local equivalent) guidance, both external and internal
About you….
- Field Engineering - demonstrable experience & success delivering remote product support (with experience working internationally)
- Fluency in English and Polish language
- Installation & commissioning experience of complex products and / or systems
- Proven ability to deliver projects on time and within approved budgets
- Excellent technical and practical competence relating to automation and general engineering
- Experience of projects and products in manufacturing, automotive, airports, FMCG distribution or similar field
- Acceptance Testing
- IT literate, proficient with Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite
- Aptitude to debate detail (both technical and commercial) with both internal and external parties
- Skilled in use of small hand tools
- Comfortable using field test & measurement equipment e.g. DMM
- Ability to work in a safe manner at all times and appreciate the implications and requirements of relevant product safety and compliance
- Appreciation of applicable directives, codes standards etc. (e.g. machinery directive)
- Technical / Engineering qualification to HND level in a relevant field (including but not limited to: mechanical structures, plastics moulding, functional safety, conveyor systems, electromechanical systems, robotics
