Qualifications:

Individual Occupational Requirements Experience:  Possess experience that involved: (l) identifying, preventing, or eliminating safety hazards in work methods or environmental conditions; or (2) safety training or promotion. Such experience must have provided a practical knowledge of occupational and environmental safety hazards, survey techniques, and control and preventive methods. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include: biological technician, medical technician, engineering technician, fire prevention inspector, and environmental health worker.

For the GS-7 Grade LevelIn addition to meeting the individual occupational requirement, Applicants must have at least 52 weeks experience at the next lower level in the normal career progression of the position being filled. When compared to Federal experience, this experience must be equivalent to at least the next lower grade level of GS-06. This experience may have been gained either in the Federal or Private sectors. Examples of specialized experience include:(l) identifying, preventing, or eliminating safety hazards in work methods or environmental conditions; or (2) safety training or promotion. Such experience must have provided a practical knowledge of occupational and environmental safety hazards, survey techniques, and control and preventive methods. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include: biological technician, medical technician, engineering technician, fire prevention inspector, and environmental health worker.

Or,

ONE (1) FULL YEAR OF GRADUATE LEVEL EDUCATION or an INTERNSHIP with completed courses directly related to the work of THIS POSITION.

Or,

A combination of SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE equivalent to the GS-06 level in or related to the work of THIS POSITION and EDUCATION with completed coursework directly related to the work of THIS POSITION. 

FOR GS-08 Grade Level: One year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-7 level in the Federal Service which includes experience that involved:  (l) identifying, preventing, or eliminating safety hazards in work methods or environmental conditions; or (2) safety training or promotion. Such experience could be gained working as a biological technician, medical technician, engineering technician, fire prevention inspector, and environmental health worker.  Such experience must have provided a practical knowledge of occupational and environmental safety hazards, survey techniques, and control and preventive methods. 

In addition to the basic requirements and specialized experience, preferred applicants must be able to read, speak, and write Spanish, however this is not required.

Responsibilities:

Major Duties of this position: 

Provides technical support for all safety and health inspection activities to include citation processing, case file maintenance, inspection data entry, abatement, post-citation processes, and final case file disposition. Develops a working knowledge of OSHA compliance directives, policies and regulations and ensures inspection files and documentation are processed and maintained accordingly.

Manages the office’s programmed activity (UPA) intake process and provides technical support for processing, case file maintenance, data entry and final disposition of UPA files, including Non-Formal Complaint investigations and Rapid Response Investigations.

Coordinates and processes all financial aspects of office safety and health inspection activities, including payment receiving and processing and debt collection. Conducts detailed reviews of office debt collection reports and works to report and resolve outstanding debt collection issues.

Serves as the Area Office’s point of contact for all matters related to the OSHA Information System (OIS). Generates and uses OIS based reports for monitoring administrative aspects of the office’s enforcement and compliance assistance programs and activities. Reports identified discrepancies and technical issues as appropriate.

Responsible for maintaining an inventory of technical equipment, calibration tracking, and the ordering and shipping of technical equipment, sampling media, and other technical supplies to and from agency technical centers.

Serves as the Area Office’s central point of contact on matters pertaining to OSHA programs, including skilled intake and screening of public inquiries, fielding requests for information, and recording and coordinating complaints. Manages the reception area, receives visitors and incoming calls and directs as appropriate. Manages the office mail program.

Supports the FOIA program at the Area Office level; redacts files; ensures FOIAs are processed and tracked in accordance with all rules and policies; monitors FOIA fee collection reports and ensures payment correspondence is prepared and delivered per guidelines.
