Residential Nurse Job Responsibilities:
- Operates within personal license constraints in strict accordance with regulations and guidelines defined by the Nurse Practices Act, Division of Developmental Disabilities (DDD), Medicaid Regulations and established OTC policies and procedures to provide nursing care oversight and identify, assess, improve and maintain the quality of life and healthcare to all Residents.
- Serves as a key liaison, advocate and resource of information regarding both routine and special healthcare needs to support a comprehensive care plan for each Resident.
- Facilitates a team approach to the quality of care for all Residents through interaction, communication and collaboration with family members, clinical staff, physicians, pharmacists, program management/staff, insurance companies, hospitals and rehabilitation facilities to attain and maintain quality care and assist in the removal or modification of reported health-related barriers.
- Identifies and assesses the routine, special and changing healthcare needs of Residents and works jointly with the healthcare and program teams to implement a comprehensive healthcare plan and service delivery system that is responsive to the individual needs of each Resident.
- Monitors and assesses the continued progress of each individual supported. May identify and facilitate the referral of Residents to healthcare providers to best meet individual healthcare needs.
- Facilitates and may schedule as needed healthcare appointments for Residents and assist in providing the documentation required for the appointment; e.g., referral forms, medical history, laboratory results, etc. May accompany program staff and individuals on appointments, as needed. Assist program with making appointments and obtaining referrals if needed.
- Discuss upcoming appointments with group home management/staff to provide suggestions/concerns to discuss with physicians at the appointment.
- Review Consult Forms, laboratory and special test results to obtain or clarify medical information and discuss further testing and follow-up appointment needs. May need to assist program with determining what providers may be preferred as determined by the individual’s medical insurance.
- Participate in the screening and potential admission of new Residents by reviewing medical records and coordinating necessary services to contribute to a smooth and efficient process. Assesses all individuals and their required medical paperwork on admission.
- May administer daily and emergency medications as ordered by physician or as needed. May administer injections to the individuals if needed in the community setting to meet programs’ needs.
- Review MAR records for all Residents to ensure proper medication administration and documentation.
- Complete Medical Trainings with staff members as needed. Attend group home staff meetings, listening to staff concerns and providing feedback and education as needed.
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing is required
- Necessary Special Requirements: Because this job is considered safety sensitive, a drug screen test will be required prior to employment, and at a random basis thereafter.
- Schedule is Monday-Friday but occasional evenings and weekends may be required.
