What are the responsibilities and job description for the Certified Veterinary Technician position at Ocean Reef Community Association?
The Certified Veterinary Technician will assist the Veterinarian with a wide array of tasks, included but not limited to treatment of sick and healthy animals.
SPECIFIC DUTIES (INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO)
· Performing an initial examination of the animal.
· Taking vital signs, collecting blood/urine/stool/cytology samples and gathering medical histories.
· Providing emergency first aid.
· Assisting in research.
· Performing laboratory testing/procedures.
· Preparing animals and equipment for surgical procedures.
· Administering oral medications and vaccines prescribed by a veterinarian.
· Taking and processing x-rays.
· Updating patient records.
· Transitioning paper records to a digital format by performing data entry.
· Cleaning and preparing exam rooms before appointments.
· Sending tissue and fluid samples to a lab for analysis or using on-site equipment to conduct tests.
· Helping a veterinarian treat injured animals in emergencies.
· Answering phone calls.
· Calculating billing amounts.
· Explaining medical procedures and educating animal owners.
· Able to interact with clients in a knowledgeable & professional manner.
· Animal handling & restraint.
· Placing & monitoring IV catheterization
· Administering sedatives & monitoring anesthesia.
· Assisting during surgery.
· Performing dental cleanings.
· Taking radiographs.
· Providing patient post-op & hospitalized nursing care.
· Knowledge of vaccination for infectious diseases, heartworm prevention, flea & tick control, medical diets, preventative care.

· Ability to see, read, hear, to speak calmly and clearly.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Education: High school or equivalent. (Preferred)
Experience: At least three (3) to five (5) years of Veterinary Technician experience is preferred.
Licenses, Certificates, or Other: Veterinary Technician Certification required.
Any combination of the above education and experience sufficient to perform the essential duties of the Certified Veterinary Technician position will be considered.
