Package, ship, result, and call Covid-19 results from reference laboratories (to include scanning results into the LIS order).
Tech duties of a (Generalist): will rotate in all departments as deemed competent - Phlebotomy/specimen processing, Chemistry, Hematology, Coagulation, Immunohematology, Urinalysis, Serology, and Microbiology. Performs testing by monitoring testing equipment and systems for acceptable analytical performance.
Provides direction for non-certified and certified staff performing waived testing and nonwaived testing. Ensures corrective actions are taken prior to patient test results being reported.
Ensures competency of testing personnel responsible for specimen processing, test performance, reporting of test results, and for instrument maintenance and calibration of test systems at defined intervals.
Follows the laboratory's procedures for specimen handling, processing, and testing.
Performs proficiency testing or blind specimens as assigned for assessing competencies and assigns proficiency testing (PT) to appropriate testing personnel.
Reviews and enters results of PT surveys.
Adheres to laboratory's quality control policies, document all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations, and maintenance performed. Reviews all QC and all electronic results completed.
Follows laboratory policy and procedures when test systems are not within the lab's acceptable level of performance.
Must identify problems that may adversely affect test results and either must correct the problems immediately or notify Lab Manager. Documents all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory's established performance specifications.
Maintains Laboratory employee schedule.
Assists as needed, Phlebotomy staff, in all areas (geriatric, pediatric, neonate, routine, heel sticks, finger sticks). MT certification preferred. Collection of urine/blood drug screens- chain of custody.
Prefer certification in DOT/Saliva alcohol collections.
Computer skills are required.
Responsible for daily routine duties in lab as outlined below. Must follow the laboratory's procedures for specimen collection, handling, processing, analysis, reporting, and maintaining records of patient test results. Must be capable of identifying problems with specimen collection that may adversely affect test results and must correct the problem immediately before proceeding with the specimen processing. Must maintain a safe work environment. Maintains specimen collection area and equipment and collection trays in a clean orderly manner. Contributes to the efficient operations of the laboratory.
Required to travel off site to any or all of OCH labs on occasion.
Responsible for data entry of specimens into the hospital computer system.
All other duties assigned by Lab Manager.
