Description
An allergy/immunology Nurse focuses on the care of patients with chronic allergic conditions. These conditions include asthma, allergic rhinitis, urticaria, and atopic dermatitis. Duties include providing direct patient care and health education.
Essential Functions:
- Administer medications, treatments and injections as delegated under physician’s supervision.
- Receive, organize and dispense medication and other samples as prescribed by physicians, maintain a drug sample, dispensing log as per FDA regulations.
- Instruct Patients regarding appropriate preparation for certain diagnostic tests and procedures.
- Performs medical assisting procedures under supervision of, or as delegated by a physician.
- Gives instructions and education to patients as instructed by physicians.
- Takes baseline vital signs (BP, P, T°, Wt., & R), patient history (review of symptoms, medical history etc.)
- When clerking a patient prior to provider seeing patient – does a final check to ensure all appropriate paperwork is available, reports and diagnostic results, reports are present for the visit.
- Triage and manage Patient, Pharmacy and other MD phone calls.
- Prepare and replenish medical supplies, maintain an inventory in a cost-effective, patient and employee safe manner.
- Patient education material coordination, stocking.
- Responsible for safety, care and working condition of all diagnostic equipment.
- Understands and adheres to practice policy on patient and office confidentiality.
- Complies with all rules, regulations and procedures of the Practice Compliance Program which includes but is not limited to OIG Program, HIPAA, OSHA, CLIA and any other state, local or federally mandated regulations that affect a physician’s office.
- Informs practice manager and compliance officer of any concerns related to any compliance issues (OIG, HIPAA Privacy and Security, State medical board etc).
- Performs any other duties as requested and delegated by physician or practice manager.
Requirements
- Is familiar with, complies with and incorporates office policies and procedures in daily duties.
- Maintains knowledge and complies with all personnel and other established job related policies and procedures. Understands and includes the practice’s mission statement in daily performance of job duties.
- Knowledge of anatomy, physiology and medical terminology.
- Computer skills, minimum of Windows, Excel, Data Entry.
- CPR certified.
- Knowledge of assisting providers with Immunizations/Injections procedures
- Autoclaving/Sterilization techniques
- Phlebotomy preferred but not required
- Possesses good basic reading, writing and math skills.
Education: Maintain CPR and respective license (RN)
Work hours: 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. - Occasional overtime may be required.
