Job Description
The Basic Needs Graduate Assistant will assist in the execution of basic needs services to under-resourced undergraduate and graduate students. This includes assisting in the weekly operations of the Cats’ Cupboard Food Pantry, administration of the Meal Bank program, reviewing Emergency Microgrants applications, and assisting students applying for SNAP benefits.
The GA will be a member of the Dean of Students team. The Dean of Students office supports students in crisis, communicates with parents, and assists students in navigating the university system.
Some of the responsibilities include the following:
GA’s are expected to work a total of 300 hours over the course of the semester. This time period will begin two weeks prior to the start of the semester and conclude at the end of the semester. This averages out to approximately 20 hours per week. Must be available to participate in staff orientation and training during the two weeks prior to the opening of fall semester. Some evenings and weekends required.
The GA will be a member of the Dean of Students team. The Dean of Students office supports students in crisis, communicates with parents, and assists students in navigating the university system.
Some of the responsibilities include the following:
- Cats’ Cupboard Food Pantry Operations;
- Supervise undergraduate students managing day-to-day pantry functions;
- Work with campus and community partners to secure food donations for the pantry;
- Create assessment tools to measure the impact of the pantry use on retention and graduation;
- Contribute to an environment in the food pantry that is inclusive and welcomes all identities and perspectives;
- Work with Cats’ Cupboard Steering Committee to advance the goals of the pantry.
- Develop and administer assessment tools for Bobcats Helping Bobcats.
- Work one-on-one with students applying for Emergency Microgrants.
- Promote equity through the (1) identification and removal of barriers, (2) facilitation of learning, (3) dignity in service, and (4) empowerment of people.
- Manage applications for meals from the Meal Bank program.
- Participate in the Division of Student Affairs by joining one of its committees, attending professional development opportunities, and participating in various social justice in-services;
- All other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications
- Given the partnership with The Gladys W. and David H. Patton College of Education first consideration for this assistantship goes to those students applying for admission to the College Student Personnel program followed by graduate students within the College of Education.
