What are the responsibilities and job description for the Legal Counsel position at OHSU?
Department Overview
Represent the university in all matters relating to mergers, acquisitions, joint ventures and partnership agreements.
Function/Duties of Position
BUSINESS ADVICE AND CONTRACTS. Provide legal advice and lead negotiations related to strategic relationships between the university, its health system and third parties across the State. Work includes negotiation of and development of strategic agreements, and advice regarding valuation, financing and antitrust.
HEALTH LAW. Provide legal services relating to health law matters regularly faced by an academic medical center that includes an integrated health care delivery system, including Anti-Kickback and Stark law analysis, HIPAA and patient confidentiality generally, patient consent, EMTALA, medical/legal ethics, medical staff, pharmacy, QA/QM, medical student and resident coverage issues, privileging and credentialing, etc. Work includes provision of advice and assistance to health system compliance staff.
REIMBURSEMENT. Serve as back up to secondary reimbursement attorney in the delivery of legal services relating to third party payer reimbursement, including both federal health care programs and commercial insurance payers.
SUPERVISORY. Legal Assistant (indirect)
Required Qualifications
* Juris Doctorate degree from American Bar Association accredited school.
* Minimum fifteen (15) years of legal experience in similar law practice is required.
* Legal knowledge of substantive law in areas of functional responsibility;
* Strong contract drafting skills
* Ability to work effectively with a wide range of individuals at different levels of the organization
* Ability to work efficiently with complex issues
* Strong oral and written communication skills
* Good judgment
* Ability to set priorities
* Work independently and drive processes
* Ability to handle a wide variety of tasks and responsibilities
* Ability to develop collaborative relationships and efforts, resolve conflicts and problem solve
* Ability to instill confidence among clients and colleagues.
* Active memeber of Oregon State Bar and in good standing.
Preferred Qualifications
Twenty (20) years legal experience in similar law practice preferred.
