Department Overview

The Organ Donation Coordinator: utilizing healthcare knowledge, expertise, independent industry specific judgement and medical protocols coordinates all aspects of organ donation for transplant and research in the Donor Service Area (DSA) hospitals in Oregon, southern Washington, and southwest Idaho.

Function/Duties of Position

Assess and evaluates potential organ donors, communicates with donor families, directs clinical management of the organ donor, evaluates and places organs for transplant, coordinates the organ recovery process with transplant and medical teams and assists those teams with the surgical recovery and transportation of organs for transplant and research.

The Organ Procurement Organization’s (OPO) Organ Donation Coordinator provides education to residents, critical care interns, nursing, respiratory therapy, physician assistant and medical students.

The Organ Donation Coordinator (ODC) will manage and assist in organ recovery, allocation, preservation, and follow-up of donated organs.

The ODC is on clinical call for 24 hour periods, must travel by charter and commercial aircraft, conduct donor management in ICU’s, screen for potential organ, tissue, and eye donations, obtain consent for donation, communicates with donor families, and assist with organ recovery.

Marketing and education responsibilities include: hospital assessments, develop organ donation protocols, and provide education to hospital staff for the purpose of increasing organ donations.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's of Science Degree with healthcare related focus or equivalent experience.
  • 3-years recent relevant clinical or donation related experience or equivalent.
  • Extensive clinical healthcare knowledge base, with the ability to quickly and independently exercise sound clinical judgement in an often stressful environment.
  • Excellent communication skills, flexible, highly motivated, a good team member with a positive attitude.
  • Must be able to work in an adaptive fashion with a wide range of professional and nonprofessional constituents including but not limited to governmental officials, students, healthcare staff and the public.
  • Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodation.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $82,000.00 per year

  • 10 hour shift
  • 12 hour shift
  • 8 hour shift
