What are the responsibilities and job description for the HVAC Technician position at Okaloosa County?
Performs heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) work in the construction, maintenance, and repair of assigned county property, systems, structures and equipment.• Performs HVAC construction, maintenance, and repairs on county structures, facilities, equipment and other property.
• Reads blueprints, diagrams, specifications, manuals and/or sketches.
• Ensures all work performed adheres to established safety standards, building codes and regulations and engineering standards.
• Performs preventive maintenance.
• Operates a variety of tools and equipment, both general and trade specific.
• Maintains and ensures the safe operating condition of assigned equipment, tools and vehicles according to established department policy and sound trade practices.
• Performs various record maintenance duties where applicable (i.e., work orders, materials and supplies utilized, cost estimates, labor required, maintenance logs, fuel logs).
• Reports any detected deterioration, repair needs, and/or maintenance needs to supervisor.
• Assists with the planning, estimating and coordination of more complex tasks.
• Completes general tasks of other trades as needed.
• Performs other duties as assigned.Education, Training, and Experience: High school diploma or GED supplemented by a minimum of two (2) years of specific experience that provides the ability to perform skilled tasks in the HVAC trade, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Experience in electrical and plumbing preferred.
Licenses and/or Certifications: Requires a valid driver license. Certification in Freon/Refrigerant Handling and Recovery required, or must obtain within 6 months of hire. A valid Class B commercial driver license (CDL) is preferred.Physical Requirements: Must be able to operate various hand-held manual, electrical, and gas powered equipment and tools. Must be able to exert 50 to 150 pounds of force occasionally, or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Requires prolonged periods of standing and walking. Requires full range of body motion in manipulation of limbs and torso for working on scaffolding, climbing ladders and/or working in confined spaces. Must be able to traverse irregular or uneven terrain frequently. Physical demands are in excess of sedentary work.
Language Ability: Requires the ability to communicate effectively in English, including the ability to convey, record and exchange information; requires the ability to explain procedures and to give, receive and follow oral and written instructions. Must be able to read a variety of moderately complex technical data, policy and procedure manuals, codes, professional journals.
Intelligence: Requires the ability to apply principles of common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions; to deal with problems involving concrete variables in situations where standardization exists; to make independent judgments in the absence of supervisor; to acquire knowledge of topics related to primary occupation.
Numerical Aptitude: Must be able to add, subtract, multiply and divide; determine weight; calculate decimals and percentages; compute ratio and proportion.
Interpersonal Temperament: Requires the ability to deal with people beyond receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to performing under stress when confronted with emergencies or tight deadlines. Requires the ability to exercise consistent tact and courtesy when in frequent contact with various professionals, county staff, and the general public.
