Description

As the Oklahoma City Thunder’s Brand Influence and Identity team, we lead the strategic development and positioning of the brand’s identity and programs. We approach our work with intentionality and purpose, striving daily to uncover new and relevant ways to connect the Thunder to people in deeper and more meaningful ways. We are looking for a Brand Strategist to join us as part of our highly collaborative team to help define the “why” behind what we do and the most impactful way to do it. This role will focus on turning research and data into practical consumer insights that unlock opportunities, influence the positioning of programs, encourage creative, ensure connection, and bring even more purpose to our work.

 

In this role you will:

  • Contribute to the development of brand, messaging, and creative strategies that optimally position the Oklahoma City Thunder, Oklahoma City Blue, and Thunder Shop to connect with our audience in meaningful and impactful ways.

  • Work closely with the Director, Brand Influence and Identity; Head of Brand Identity; and Creative Strategist to maintain our brand's identity, determine the appropriate elasticity of our brand expression, and develop strategic imperatives for brand campaigns and micro-campaigns.

  • Develop and present insightful creative briefs that inspire integrated creative teams to successfully concept "big ideas", activations, and advertising to bring the brand to life across touchpoints.

  • Evaluate creative executions based on the creative brief to ensure adherence to brand standards, as well as consistent and impactful messaging.

  • Instill purpose in all projects by “defining the why” to bring greater meaning to campaigns, storytelling, events, programs, etc.

  • Collaborate with creative team members on campaign development and with media, analytics, and subject matter experts on implementation strategies.

  • Conduct and manage primary and secondary research projects to uncover people insights that lead to concrete next steps that keep us ahead of the curve.

  • Analyze data, insights, trends, and industry standard processes to influence the development and implementation of integrated brand, creative, and messaging strategies.

  • Work with different departments and leaders to determine positioning and strategies for various campaigns, events, and programs. That includes meeting with various stakeholders to determine objectives, important metrics, and pertinent information for success.

  • Help develop and maintain the architecture of the Thunder's portfolio of brands, programs, and events.

  • Ensure brand consistency across touchpoints by guiding colleagues through how to bring the Thunder brand to life in their unique roles.

 

What you’ll bring to this role:

  • 3-5 years’ experience in an advertising agency or creative shop as a Brand Strategist, Brand Planner, or Account Planner.

  • Experience developing creative briefs and positioning statements.

  • Experience conducting and analyzing qualitative and quantitative research with a curiosity for uncovering and applying insights.

  • The versatility to show off your left-brain analytic skills and right-brain creative talents.

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to tell a great story.

  • Resourcefulness in problem-solving and troubleshooting.

  • Ambition. You should strive to stay informed and have a perspective on industry trends.

  • Tenacity. Complex projects, a fast-past environment, and deadlines don’t scare you, they energize you.

  • The ability to multitask, prioritize across multiple projects, and work under pressure.

  • A self-motivated mentality and enthusiasm to work with a collaborative team.

  • The ability to work quickly and accurately under pressure with attention to detail.

  • Good judgment in the decision-making process and the ability to work through problems in an efficient and courteous manner.

 

Additional Information:

Primary work location will be the Thunder corporate office located in downtown Oklahoma City. This is a full-time, non-exempt position reporting to the Director, Brand Influence and Identity. Employees are encouraged to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19.
