What are the responsibilities and job description for the Campus Surveyor position at Oklahoma State University?
This position is responsible for Field Surveying; Records Maintenance and Data Transfer, Use, and Coordination; Drafting Support; and Equipment Maintenance and other survey support.
Ability to become proficient in the use of "AiM" Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) software and mobile technology.
Must use appropriate personal protective equipment as required (hard hat, vest, gloves, safety glasses, respirators, etc.). These items are provided and are not for personal use.
Must work safely, adhere to all safety requirements, and promote a safe work environment.
Typical hazards involved in working on or around construction sites, streets, and highways. A large percentage of required work is outside in variable weather.
Exposed to extreme heat and cold, working around hazardous equipment. Outside in all types of inclement weather, high levels of dust and noise.
This position is heavy in manual labor and requires the physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds frequently and in excess of 50 pounds occasionally. Ability to traverse difficult terrain on job sites.
Due to communication expectations of the position, the employee is required to maintain a personal cell phone and will be required to be continually available during and after normal working hours.
Employee in this position is required to be on rotating standby for emergencies and/or any other events after 5:00 p.m. weekdays, weekends and holidays.
Employee in this position is required to work overtime after 4 p.m. when work requires. Employee in this position is required to work shift work when work can't be accomplished during regular hours, and when the Management staff deems necessary.

Minimum Qualifications:
High School/GED and two years of experience in topographic/planimetric surveying and/or construction surveying with knowledge of processing survey data and experience in using total stations, electronic data collectors, and GPS survey equipment.
Have before hire and maintain after hire, a valid driver's license. A valid driver's license must be maintained for the operation of an OSU vehicle, which is required in the performance of job duties as assigned.
This position requires experience in RTK survey system and the ability to be creative and work on projects independently or as a member of a project team. The position requires the ability to critically analyze needs and choose proper methods for solving problems and accomplishing tasks. The holder of this position must be able to interpret legal descriptions, plats, and construction plans and have the skills necessary to gather survey data, set survey control points, calculate and set construction stakes, and assist in the production of site development plans. The holder of this position must be able to demonstrate knowledge and proficiencies in applying current surveying methods and technologies including GPS survey equipment.

Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in land surveying or a related field.
Civil Drafting experience using AutoCAD Civil 3D software for the production of maps and site plans is preferred. A background in tracking site and utility information is a plus.

Proficiency in the use of AutoCAD Civil 3D software. Knowledge of utility design and installation processes. Ability to write legal descriptions. Knowledge of the principles of implementing and supporting Geographical Information Systems (GIS).
