Foreperson-Seed Production

Position Summary

Reporting to Seed Production Agronomist, the Foreman/Seed Production

will supervise and take care of all activities pertaining to seed production; seed fields, stock seed fields and bulb increases. Supervise bulb increase and seed field planting, harvest, bulb sorting, threshing and cleaning production onion seed. Assist in R&D activities at the Research Farm. Intermittent overnight travel required.

Position Responsibilities

• Onion seed bulb production
• Onion seed production
• Seed and bulb processing
• Assists with supervision of hourly staff - temp labor
• Assist with safety programs
• Equipment Operation: Forklift, Tractors, Threshers, all the equipment in the seed production processes
• Ability to understand, comprehend and convert units of measurement.
• Handling and applying pesticides with all spray equipment.
• Calibrate and monitor fertilizer applications.
• Calibrate bulb planter and plant seed fields
• Communicate with other departments, and outside entities to complete tasks.
• Help organize and maintain seed vault
• Supervise bulb sorting and keep track of inventory. (Trash company, trucking company)
• Supervise labor and run threshers during threshing process.
• Supervise, treat and package vegetable seeds.
• Organize and fulfill onion seed orders.
• Help organize and maintain seed vault
• Maintenance and repair of equipment and facilities.
• Assist with research farm management and R&D activities at the Research Farm.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements

• High school degree or equivalent
• Ability to compute math problems and unit conversions
• Ability to read and comprehend written and verbal instructions in English, Spanish a plus.
• Self-motivated and capable of working independently.
• Honest, dependable and hard working.
• Good interpersonal skills.
• Class C driver license, preferably class A.
• Ability to understand proportions and rates
• Private applicator license, preferred
