What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Youth Development position at Old Colony YMCA?
The Director of Youth Development is responsible for the administration and overall daily operation of mentoring and teen leadership programming within the regional service area of these programs. The Director is responsible for the hiring and training of professional staff who reflect the mission of the Y and aim to work towards ensuring that all youth receive quality preventative services. The Director of Youth Development will represent the Old Colony Y in a positive, professional manner, resulting in friendly, convenient, and courteous service. The Director will uphold the employee code of conduct and will ensure that all areas of the job responsibilities reflect the mission of the Old Colony Y, and regulating agencies. JOB FUNCTIONS:
Program Responsibility
- Oversee all components of teen leadership framework, as well as 1:1 and group Mentoring through the YMCA Association inclusive of all grant funded mentoring and teen leadership initiatives.
- Oversee Staff Programming team including case management and teen leadership staff
- Provide direct leadership and supervision of all teen and mentoring fundraisers including Spinathon and other opportunities as they arise.
- Effectively manage relationship with all funders, ensuring compliance, reporting, fiscal control, and operations under Mentor Inc.’s National Elements of Effective Practice and additional mandated policies and procedures as needed.
- Ensure completion and compliance reviews including monthly and annual reports and standards as set by Mentor, Inc. and additional funding partners
- Maintain communication with program participants, volunteers, caregivers, and member services.
- Ensure the preparation, distribution and completion of various records, e.g. attendance records, safety reports, progress evaluations, evaluation forms, program applications, grant reports and certification awards as required by Old Colony Y and other regulatory agencies.
- Develop, plan, and manage new and existing programs as needed.
- Ensure well-rounded, diversified, quality programs are offered.
- Promote and market all programs in collaboration with of other OCY Branches, Youth Division, Family Services Branch, Social Service Divisions, etc.
- Oversee and develop with staff team a volunteer marketing and recruitment plan utilizing resources from various mentoring partners.
- Engage stakeholders and board members in mentoring and teen leadership programming through presentations, recruitment campaigns, etc.
- Ensure all program standards are met in accordance with YMCA and other local, state and federal funding sources.
Supervision of Personnel
- Recruit, hire, train, schedule, supervise, and evaluate personnel.
- Directly supervise mentoring case management team and Director of Youth Leadership Development.
- Supervise interns and volunteers to include training, monitoring, evaluating, crisis intervention and referrals.
Fiscal Responsibility
- Adhere to fiscal policies and procedures such as petty cash, purchase orders, vouchers, employee expense, monthly statistics (billing as appropriate).
- Monitor program budgets and assist in budget development.
- Ensure all expenditures are in compliance of all funding partners and grant restrictions.
Facility/Housekeeping Responsibility
- Maintain upkeep, cleanliness and security of the office space. Maintain daily upkeep and cleanliness of respective office areas and engage team in this responsibility as well.
- Maintain program equipment (i.e. cell phones, computers, recreational equipment, etc.)
Essential Job Functions
- Ability to supervise employees
- Ability to drive a car up to 8 hours per day.
- Must be an insured and licensed driver with a clean driving record and be able to travel for occasional home visits, transportation of clients, and provider meetings, as well as able to pass pre-placement drug screen.
- Ability to communicate with clients, families, and collateral resources in person, by phone, and through email.
- Ability to facilitate a variety of groups and engage in public speaking presentations.
- Must be able to sit down, stand up, walk up and down stairs and bend over during the course of the day.
Interdivisional/Community/Volunteer Responsibility and Essential Function:
- Offer support in crisis situations to all OCY programs.
- Actively participate in all scheduled agency-wide staff meetings, full staff meetings, and the strategic planning process and reviews.
- Make presentations to outside community groups/schools, colleges, universities and agencies enhancing collaboration
- Develop own professional goals through self-evaluation and seeking out opportunities for growth
