Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in the Sciences field, or suitable equivalent
Must be able to multitask, prioritize and manage time efficiently
- Ability to follow precise direction in situations requiring speed, accuracy, and efficiency
- Ability to accurately identify specimens
- Ability to work as part of a team, capable of working under deadlines without sacrificing quality, and the willingness to train in other areas of the lab
- Strong PC skills and working knowledge of MS Office
- Self-motivated, well-organized, reliable, and able to prioritize workload
- Ability to handle biological materials
- Familiarity with CLIA and CAP regulatory requirements
- Identify and report unsafe equipment, conditions, and practices so that they may be corrected prior to an incident
- Excellent attention to detail

Responsibilities
- The Laboratory Assistant will perform general laboratory procedures by assisting the CLS in completing testing according to lab and safety protocols
- The Lab Assistant is also responsible in ensuring that the laboratory has adequate supplies by performing materials inventory, including verifying expiration dates, and evaluating consumable levels to prevent shortages and expired supplies, and alerts ordering personnel in a timely manner
- Assist Licensed Technologists and/or Technicians in preparing testing samples and records for Laboratory testing – Retrieve repeat samples as required for repeat testing
- Able to pull samples pending list accurately by location, sorting, and preparing samples for testing
- Maintains and ensures laboratory has adequate supplies daily, weekly, and monthly by monitoring lab supplies and reagents
- Accurately labels received samples appropriately matching the labels on the received requisition to ensure that there are no mislabeled specimens before processing
- Performs and follows all written SOP specimen procedures to include laboratory’s specimen acceptance and rejection criteria
- Knowledgeable of all tests offered by the laboratory and specimen requirements to include collection, handling, transportation, and storage conditions
- Performs proper storage of specimens before/after testing including properly discarding specimens according to SOP and as instructed by the Lab Manager or Lab Supervisor
- Conduct activities in compliance with CLIA and other regulatory guidelines
- Adheres to laboratory safety practices, including but not limited to OSHA blood-borne pathogens, HIPAA, and hazardous chemicals training and monitoring
