Olson Effertz Executive Search is currently seeking a Chief Executive Officer for Bismarck Mandan Board of Realtors®.  The company headquarters are located in Bismarck and has been in business for more than twenty years. The Bismarck Mandan Board of Realtors® (BMBOR) is the trade association representing the area’s residential and commercial brokers, salespeople, and others engaged in the real estate industry. BMBOR is a trusted ally guiding members through the ever-evolving real estate landscape. This position is the key leadership role for the company and is responsible for vision and direction as well as operational oversight.

Job Description

Responsibilities & Duties: The CEO reports to the Board of Directors and is responsible for managing the BMBOR office in Bismarck, North Dakota. Day-to-day responsibilities vary throughout the year and may include: 

  • Policy: Apply national association policy to the local Board, research and draft local policy, establish administrative office policies; 
  • Employee Management: Recruit, hire, train, promote, and terminate staff; Establish and periodically review personnel system and procedures; determine appropriate salary adjustments and yearly bonus amounts; 
  • Membership: Supervises membership development and membership services in coordination with local staff; 
  • Education: Develop and maintain an education program for the benefit of the membership; assure members serving in professional standards roles are trained to national standards; 
  • Financial: Manage the finances of the Board and special entities as required; coordinate with the Executive Committee to prepare an annual budget; forecast financial needs; Maintain proper collection and allocation of membership dues; 
  • Communication: Research, write, and deliver legal, regulatory, and business information to members, elected officials, and other stakeholders as appropriate;
  • Advocacy: Maintain positive relationships with chambers of commerce, other Realtor® associations, and city and county leaders and associations; political action committee fundraising and administration; 
  • Meeting Duties: Plan, coordinate, and attend all Board, Executive Committee, and membership meetings; Provide support to enable committees and members to perform meeting functions properly; Provide administrative functions for the Board of Directors, including meeting minutes and maintaining secure file systems for documents and data; attend state and national meetings and conferences; 
  • Multiple Listing Service: Oversee the administrative functions for the Great North MLS, including board administrative support and managing employees that provide direct member support. (The Great North MLS includes Bismarck-Mandan, Williston, and Jamestown.);
  • Miscellaneous: Facility management; application of National Association of Realtors® procedures to BMBOR code of ethics complaints and arbitration requests.

Qualifications

Qualifications & Skills: The ideal candidate for CEO will possess management and fiduciary experience commensurate with an executive level management. We encourage applicants of all educational backgrounds to apply but anticipate the individual filling this position will have a bachelor’s degree or higher. Previous Realtor® Association experience is an asset but not required for this position. 

Minimum Skill Requirements: 

  • Organization and leadership skills; 
  • Self-starter with initiative and ability to anticipate the needs of others;
  • Office Skills - MS Word, Excel, calendaring, virtual meeting software;
  • Managing staff and vendors; 
  • Financial record keeping including balancing accounts and compliance with legal and regulatory standards; 
  • Creating and using a budget to guide operations; 
  • Certified in Realtor® Professional Standards Administration or the ability to become certified within six months; 
  • Strategic thinking and analytical skills; 
  • Ability to multitask and manage several projects; 
  • Experience working with an association, board, or other volunteer leaders;
  • Adaptability and a willingness to work until the job is completed; 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 

Preferred Skills & Qualifications: 

  • Excellent understanding of finance-related performance standards;
  • Proven ability to develop and execute financial strategies; 
  • Office Skills - Quickbooks, Mailchimp 
  • Demonstrated knowledge of corporate and regulatory best practices;
  • Situational awareness and inquisitive personality looking for areas to improve;
  • Previous experience in political fundraising and determining candidate support.
