About the position:
The Splicing Supervisor is responsible for managing a team of fiber optic splicers and ensuring the successful completion of fiber optic projects. The position involves the installation, maintenance, and repair of fiber optic cables and related equipment. They must be willing to travel, be available for emergency call outs and night maintenance. Fiber Splicer Technicians prep and splice fiber using various methods, troubleshoot and repair using optical test equipment, and work with cables ranging from single fiber to 288 counts, including performing ring cuts when necessary. Our main office is based out of Port Clinton. However, we do have construction sites south of Toledo and east of Ohio that you will be traveling to as well.
What you will do:
- Read and understand OTDR trace results.
- Oversee and assist with hut equipment installation.
- To Include setting racks, mounting equipment, terminating, and labeling all fibers
- Splicing all patch panels in the hut
- All testing either OTDR or ILM
- Create redline maps with power reading by feeder.
- Create as built maps on any splicing changes from design.
- Crate a Vehicle and equipment maintenance and repair schedule including calibration.
- Interface with Design on all splice diagram issues and follow through to resolution.
- Work with tech on all service affecting issues that pertain to splicing.
- Work closely with the Construction Management to ensure splicing schedule stay on track.
- Evaluate and advise on FTTH construction techniques.
Qualifications:
- Fiber Splicer supervisory experience is preferred but not required.
- Ability to work aloft up to 50' in a bucket truck, ladder, and/or climb utility poles.
- Basic electricity and electronic skills
- This job will include 80% travel. You will receive per diem and hotel stays for those weeks you are traveling.
- Able to work nights, weekends, and holidays based on the job and the company's needs.
- Able to perform night maintenance and emergency callouts.
- Fiber splicing overview training that includes sending light over fiber and knowledge and use of optical time domain reflectometers (OTDRs), basic networking training, basic fiber training, and fusion splicing and OTDR experience.
