Snapshot of Daily Duties
- Precisely and accurately perform a variety of routine and specialized histology techniques and procedures, including specimen accessioning, grossing (prosecting), microwave tissue processing, embedding, microtomy, performing special stains, operating H&E autostainer, and operating instrumentation for immunohistochemical stains.
- Receive and accession tissue specimens and prepares specimens processing.
- Cut thin sections and stains according to established procedure for routine and special stains.
- Assist with FNA smears and stains slides for microscopic examination by the Pathologist.
- Maintain stock of necessary reagents for all stains and processing utilized in the department.
- Assist Pathologists with grossing as required.
- Comply with OSHA and regulatory requirements by following established procedures in order to maintain a safe laboratory environment and to meet all accreditation standards.
- Accession specimens, including assigning case numbers to pathology specimens, verifying specimen jars correspond to the pathology requisition, and operating the cassette printer.
- Comply with all state, federal, CLIA, CAP, and other professional regulations as well as department rules, polices, and procedural manuals, including adherence to safety regulations.
The Must Haves
- HT(ASCP) certification required or registry eligible.
- Two (2) years’ experience in an accredited anatomic pathology and cytology laboratory.
- Functioning knowledge of anatomy, chemistry, physiology, and experience in enzymes, histo-chemistry and immunoperoxidase stains required.
