Overview
Onsite Team - Design Lead
Overview/Position Summary
Manages and mentors a team of designers, and leads design projects in collaboration with the Sales teams, Project Managers and other internal resources. Aligns with division leadership and project teams to accomplish business and strategic objectives. Works on design projects from inception to final layout.
Responsibilities:
- Manage design team productivity, workloads, and task assignments.
- Manage Studio West correspondence and ‘hour release’ messages.
- Act as mentor & help with training for designers, encouraging professional development and growth.
- QBR Prep for Refresh Stats (Before/After Docs, Data Management for Reuse)
- Manage standards, processes, and quality assurance.
- Schedule & Manage Design Vendor Representatives and Team Events
- Meet with customers to gather project information (surveys, interviews, data collection, observations).
- Perform field verification, product inventory and product research.
- Produce and present design concepts to internal and external clients
- Produce Ancillary furniture plans, space plans, finish palettes, finish plans, furniture specifications, and installation packets.
- Prepare design proposals and ROM packages.
- Perform project audits for other designers.
Qualifications:
Education/Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in Interior or Architectural Design with at least 5 years related design experience. NCIDQ (National Council for Interior Design Qualification) certification or California CID (Certified Interior Designer) certification encouraged. Prior experience with system furniture products. Steelcase experience a plus.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
- Advanced proficiency in a variety of software: AutoCAD, CET Designer, 20/20 CAP, Google Sketchup
- Must have understanding of CAD and knowledge of building codes as related to furniture installs
- Committed to the mentorship and development of others
- Requires extreme attention to detail and ability to work in a deadline driven industry
- Ability to provide friendly, professional service to internal staff and clients
- Requires self-motivation and initiative. Proactive with a bias towards action.
- Strong time management skills and ability to juggle multiple projects, while taking ownership for project deliverables
- Exceptional customer service skills with ability to provide solutions to client needs
Physical Requirements
- Seeing, color perception, hearing/listening, clear speech, hand and finger dexterity, and ability to move distances within and between warehouses/offices, ability to get to project sites.
- Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time
- Complex reading and writing skills, basic math skills, judgement/decision making, analysis/comprehension
Working Environment
Regularly works with others face to face, over the phone and through email .Generally works in an office environment with moderate noise. Nature of work may require time spent out of the office. Periodically works outside and may work around moving objects, dust and dirt.
Job Status - Exempt
