What are the responsibilities and job description for the Fire Medic position at Onslow County?
Performs intermediate protective service work providing firefighting, rescue, vehicle extrication, and emergency medical services, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the general direction of the Fire and Rescue Division Head.

Ability to perform duties in accordance with established fire command and emergency procedures and techniques, ability to evaluate and differentially diagnose patient's conditions; ability to communicate clearly with professional medical personnel; ability to perform general emergency medical treatment and specialized cardiac treatment; ability to work with a diverse socio-economic population, based on the unique situations encountered; ability to respond quickly and calmly in emergencies and stressful situations; ability to drive safely in adverse conditions and according to motor vehicle laws; ability to communicate effectively in a tactful and firm manner with the public; ability to deal with stress and death and dying patients; ability to accurately record services provided on required forms; ability to work with co- workers, law enforcement personnel, fire and rescue

- Respond to emergency calls and provide emergency medical care in accordance with established guidelines and written verbal instructions from physicians.
- Respond to incidents and disasters as a firefighter: perform necessary work related to fire suppression and rescue services.
- Determine the extent of illness or injury and establish priorities for required care.
- Inspects advanced life support and telemetry equipment daily and ensures proper maintenance and operating conditions and inventories supplies.
- Maintains and operates emergency vehicles and equipment to include daily truck check-off, reporting of vehicle and equipment deficiencies, cleaning of vehicle and equipment, minor equipment.
- Enters incident reports into a database; files reports and records; maintain training data.
- Perform routine station duties to include cleaning and limited maintenance.
- Performs assigned functions as a Disaster Ready Team (DRT) member.
- Performs related tasks as required.

Possession and maintenance of current certificates issued by the State of North Carolina for:
- Emergency Medical Technician (Paramedic)
- Firefighter II
- Vehicle Machine Rescue (VMR)
- Emergency Vehicle Driver (EVD)
- Class B Driver's license valid in the State of North Carolina
- NIMS Incident Command System (ICS) Levels 100, 200, 700, and 800
- Must obtain the Technical Rescue (TR) certification within 12 months from hire date.
Salary : $49,650 - $64,542
