WHAT YOU WILL DO
onX is seeking a Full Stack Software Engineer with a passion for content and the great outdoors. This Atlas team is responsible for bringing our mapping data to life within our products for users to engage with. You will be a part of a cross-functional team that serves all of our business verticals. This role will report to the team Engineering Manager.
As an onX Full Stack Engineer, your day to day responsibilities would look like:
(Essential Job Duties)
- Build and maintain scalable services to support new features and products
- Use modern JavaScript, TypeScript, and best practices, build reusable code and libraries for future use
- Write unit and integration tests, maintaining adequate coverage
- Assist in deploying and managing services in Kubernetes
- Collaborate in architectural decisions, across teams
- Work with SRE and your team to define SLO for services and help monitor and maintain them
- Mentor other engineers in your team and across the organization
- Other ad hoc duties as assigned by the Supervisor
LOCATION
onX has created a thriving distributed workforce community across several US locations. This position can be performed from an onX corporate office, “Basecamp,” or “Connection Hub.”
- Corporate Offices: onX was founded in Montana with offices in Missoula and Bozeman. If you prefer to work in an office at least part of the time this is a great option.
- Basecamps: Basecamps are established virtual workforce communities where a sizable number of distributed team members group for work, volunteering, socializing, and adventure.
- Our current Basecamps are located within a 90-mile radius of the following: Austin, TX; Charlotte, NC; Denver, CO; Kalispell, MT; Minneapolis, MN; Portland, OR; Salt Lake City, UT; and Seattle, WA.
- Connection Hubs: Connection Hub locations are smaller, emerging communities of distributed team members.
- Our current Connection Hubs are located within a 60-mile radius of the following: Boise, ID; Charleston, SC; Dallas/Fort Worth, TX; Phoenix, AZ; Richmond, VA; Spokane, WA; and Vermont.
WHAT YOU’LL BRING
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent experience.
- 4 or more years of relevant industry experience as a software engineer, where web development was your professional focus for 2 or more years and API development for 3 or more years.
- Recent experience with modern web frontend technologies, using TypeScript and any modern web framework (React, Vue, etc)
- Expertise in building and debugging scalable distributed services using Golang and GraphQL
- Ability to traverse the full stack. You can trace an issue from the browser all the way to the service container.
- You are well-versed in modern API and systems design and development
- You believe that your profession is a craft and you’re driven to improve every day.
- You have a strong computer science foundation.
- You write quality and maintainable code.

- You get stuff done.
- Permanent US work authorization is a condition of employment with onX.
- When applicable: Must be able to travel to a corporate office in Montana periodically.
ADDED BONUSES
Though not required, we would be thrilled to consider candidates with any of the following:
- Experience with Geospatial tools and libraries (PostGIS, BigTable/BigQuery, quadtrees)
- Experience with MapBox is strongly preferred
- Recent SSR experience via React/Next, Vue/Nuxt, Remix and friends
- Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes and infrastructure-as-code technologies such as Terraform
- Familiarity with at least one major cloud platform provider such as Google Cloud Platform
- Experienced and comfortable with working remotely as part of a distributed team
COMPENSATION
onX is committed to compensating all employees fairly and equitably for their contributions. For this position, applicants can expect to make between $120,000 to $145,000 upon hire. The pay range will vary based on experience, skills, certifications, and education among other factors as required in the job description. In addition, full-time onX employees are eligible for a grant of common share options with a vesting schedule and a potential annual bonus of 10% based on company performance.
