Founded in 1952 to provide for the spiritual and physical of needs of the impoverished and homeless men, women and children of Rochester, NY by restoring hope and changing lives. We are 501(c)3 nonprofit, non-denominational Christian Rescue Mission. Our primary programs include but are not limited to emergency food and housing, transitional housing, rent assistance, and addiction recovery.

Our development team supports the fundraising and communication efforts of the agency.
SUMMARY OF POSITION:
Under direction Development Director, the Development Assistant will support ongoing development and finance initiatives through data inputting of donor information, filing donor and financial records, clerical work, sorting mail, answering the phone and other tasks as directed by the Development and Finance offices. The right candidate will utilize effective time management to complete tasks, is highly detailed and organized. Demonstrated ability to communicate with professionalism with varying levels of personnel and external donors, sharing with and communicating our mission of “Restoring Hope. Changing Lives.”
COMPENSATION PACKAGE:
Our starting rate of pay for a candidate with minimum of 2 years of administrative experience or a 2 years college education to demonstrate proficiency in computer literacy for data input, email correspondence, and phone etiquette.
All full time employees receive up to 5 weeks paid time off with an optional cash out policy, and 1 week paid sick leave. Open Door Mission contributes 70% towards medical premiums across all tiers, and provides free dental, vision, disability and life insurance.
Open Door Mission recognizes 10 holidays: New Years Day, Martin Luther King Jr Day, Good Friday, Easter Sunday, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas.
This position also offers a $400.00 retention bonus paid at the completion of their probationary period (6 months).
SCHEDULING:
This position is hybrid, working 40 hours Monday-Friday. Corporate hours are 9am-5pm but offers flexibility of an 8am start time.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Receive and process donations via mail, phone, credit card, online, EFT, and additional transaction avenues
Maintain the integrity of donor and financial data through accurate data input and filing
Create and maintain filing systems, both electronic and physical
Open and sort mail
Answer phones and respond to voice mails and emails within 24 hours, to answer questions, process donations, resolve issues and ensure requests are appropriately handled – or transfer calls, voicemails and emails to appropriate contact
Assist with donor database maintenance
Assist at Open Door Mission fundraising events
Assist with Finance Department to assist with filing, clerical support and day to day activities
Assist with other development or finance related requests as directed by Development Director
SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:
Christian with a commitment to and a passion for “restoring hope and changing lives”
High degree of accuracy, detail orientation, and organization
Computer literate; proficient in MS Office Suite, Database Operations, and Internet
Proficient with a 10-key and in data entry operations
Able to read, write and perform mathematical computations
Reliable and trustworthy - able to maintain confidentiality, high productivity and meet deadlines
Strong verbal and written communication skills with a customer service orientation

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Associate’s Degree in a related field; or, 2 years previous experience in an office setting
Previous experience with development and fundraising in a non-profit organization, helpful
