Founded in 1952 to provide for the spiritual and physical of needs of the impoverished and homeless men, women and children of Rochester, NY by restoring hope and changing lives. We are 501(c)3 nonprofit, non-denominational Christian Rescue Mission. Our primary programs include but are not limited to emergency food and housing, long term addiction recovery programming, rent assistance, and transitional housing for women and children.
DEPARTMENT:
Samaritan’s House: Men and Women’s Emergency Shelter and Services - 210 West Main Street, Rochester, NY
In addition to overnight accommodations, we give our guests access to warm meals, clean showers, and essential laundry services. Additionally, personalized case management assistance is available to those seeking permanent housing and other person-centered services.
SUMMARY OF POSITION:
The Shelter Manager receives direction from the Director of Emergency Services, and provides leadership to Emergency Shelter staff and guests (clients). Implements strategic goals in alignment with organizational objectives. Provides supervision and coaching to a team of case managers and shelter workers; regularly collaborating with the food service department and clothing room to ensure basic necessities of guests are met. Manages, trains, schedules and assesses performance of a team including case managers and shelter workers. Maintains existing and builds new community based referrals for rendering services to clients, and makes recommendations for services based on trends and/or needs of the community and participates in outreach as needed or required. Coordinate with our volunteer services department for scheduling evening chapel.
The right candidate will be proficient at de-escalation in high stress circumstances and demonstrate experience in team building. Strong computer literacy for email, client documentation and database entry is required.

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:
- Strong execution skills
- Able to supervise, coach and foster teamwork
- Excellent verbal and written communication; computer literate
- Strong interpersonal skills; able to relate effectively with diverse groups of people
- Able to multitask and meet deadlines in a fast-paced and high pressure environment
- Considerable knowledge and understanding of homelessness, addiction, poverty and mental illness
- Valid New York state driver’s license; driving record acceptable to insurance carrier
- CPR , First Aid and Narcan certified

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Progressive experience in human services field with minimum of 1 year experience in supervisory capacity required. Some college or continuous education required.
