Job Description:

This candidate must be able to produce accurate and timely drawings / specifications, as well as the ability to conform to clients' requirements in a fast paced environment.

This position will require a very strict diligence to priorities and attention to detail.

S/he must be able to design and/or draft internal office layouts / furniture based on specific requirement and/or provisions.

Extensive knowledge in AutoCAD program

Orchestrate written documentation; interpret audio, photographic and/or video documentation on a variety of different formats.

Work closely with the Sales department with quoting process.

Manages 3 employees, keeping them focused on individual tasks.

This position must remain knowledgeable and up to date on internal changes that may impact design layouts and/or the customer base of OPS.

S/he must have the ability to manage different stress levels while meeting crucial deadlines. Assists Director of HR during interviews, hires, terminations, trains and instructs workers in such a manner as to develop full working potential.


Job Requirements:

  • Able to learn quickly, think independently and make sound decisions.
  • Experience with AutoCAD
  • Structured, must be able to organize the flow and direction of multiple forms of communication.
  • Time management skills; an ability to juggle multiple tasks; self motivated, creative, results oriented, flexible and resourceful, with little to no direct supervision.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Personnel and Project Management:

  • Responsible for overseeing a department of 3 designers including daily workload, hiring, evaluating, coaching, and disciplinary action
  • Manages incoming design requests, the design box, and allocating designs to staff to maintain our expected 2-3 day turnaround
  • Creating a daily agenda for allocated design requests and communicating this with Customer Service and Design
  • Manages a yearly design log complete with all designs, closed sales, and design time spent throughout the year for each designer and myself
  • Ensure designers are managing their time appropriately and provide them support so designs are completed in a timely manner
  • Complete weekly timesheets

Design Support:

  • Analyzing and interpreting design requests to determine project needs
  • Creating full specifications of furniture layouts including electrical components, hardware, storage, and other workstation elements
  • Developing concise, professional design packages including 2D and 3D drawings, quotes
  • Creating custom drawings for woodshop to create product with accurate dimensions, cutouts, etc.
  • Responsible for identifying potential spacing and structural issues along with other potential hazards such as electrical overload within workstations
  • Provide supporting documents for engineering product review

Corporate Training:

  • Conducts webinars for dealers, providing training on how to specify, draw, and quote OPS product
  • Supports in-person dealer training with all design related functions
  • Fully trains all hired design staff on product specifications, drafting, and quoting
  • Maintains continuous training for designers on updated specifications and new product introductions

Sales Support:

  • Produce full design presentations to support dealer sales
  • Provides installation packets to support successful OPS installations
  • Collaborate with Sales management to ensure high profile projects are expedited
  • Complete showroom designs and updates as needed
  • Supports dealerships with showroom designs
  • Site visits as needed for local end users to determine project needs and communicate design possibilities for their spaces

Product and 2020 Development:

  • Contribute design feedback for product development, new and retiring finish selections, and fabric trends to help OPS stay relevant with A&D
  • Helps review specification guides to provide feedback from a design perspective on items that may not be clear, concise, or cause confusion
  • Provides feedback on website regarding design concerns
  • Assists with 2020 updates providing feedback on items that need to be corrected, are missing, or need updating

Additional Comments:

  • Prefer Bachelor's Degree (Preferred in Design), or an equitant in work experience will be considered.
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in Design
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience in management
  • High level of proficiency in the use of Windows Office suite, AutoCAD
  • Full Time Position, 40 Hour work week.
  • Relocation to Richmond, Virginia is required.
