Description
At Open Sky, the Therapist is part of an integrated treatment team that delivers powerful and transformative therapeutic experiences for students and their families, embracing the belief that all people have the capacity to thrive. Primary responsibilities include supporting the functions of the Family Services and clinical departments by leading or co-leading Family Quests, Wellness Weekends, Family Pathway classes, graduations, and other events; initiating group parent calls; and engaging in parent coaching. Family Quests require three days and two nights/week in the field (currently Monday-Wednesday). Wellness Weekends involve either Friday night through Sunday afternoon or just Saturday afternoons depending on staffing. Group parent calls and Family Pathway classes are two evenings per week (currently Monday and Thursdays). The Therapist also assists and provides time-off coverage for Clinical Therapists as needed. This involves assisting with individual and group sessions, completing clinical case notes and other documentation, attending weekly Milan and staff exchanges, and communicating with clinical and field staff regarding student treatment and progress. Other duties may be assigned.
This position is assigned primarily to the Family Services department; however, when performing clinical coverage, the position will be overseen by the Clinical Director. Open Sky hires Therapists at multiple levels, including an entry level that does not require licensure; higher levels require licensure in Utah and Colorado. Position is eligible for Open Sky’s benefits package (medical, dental, vision, 401K) depending on employee classification and hours worked.
Requirements
Education/Training
Clinical Master’s, PhD, or PsyD. Focus in family systems is preferred.
Experience
Clinical work with adolescents, young adults, and families. Strong preference for clinician with family systems background and prior wilderness experience.
Special Skills, Licenses or Certifications
Strong presentation skills; computer literate; excellent verbal communication and writing skills.
First Aid and CPR certification (within the last year) strongly preferred. Obtain de-escalation and therapeutic holds certification. Obtain medication administration certification. Must be licensed (or licensable) in Utah and Colorado (except for entry-level Therapist 1 position).
Have clean driving record and valid driver’s license. Complete DMV release for inquiry and review of driving record. Pass pre-employment physical and drug screening. Pass Colorado, Utah, and FBI background checks. Review and sign Utah Provider Code of Conduct. Provide certified college transcripts, if applicable.
Physical Demands
Must be able to hear and talk with other people in person and using phone and radio. Must be able to use office technology including a computer and related equipment. This position sometimes requires strenuous physical activity including, but not limited to, walking on uneven terrain, hiking up to 15 miles per day, carrying a 55 pound backpack, and hiking at high altitude (above 5000 feet). Employee must be able to perform these activities despite severe temperatures and adverse weather conditions. Must be able to run at a fast pace for short to extended periods in pursuit of another and must be able to apply therapeutic holds.
Work Environment
Work is performed in office and outdoor settings with frequent interaction with other people. Employee may be exposed to environmental conditions such as extreme weather, noise, and vibration, and employee may be exposed to infectious diseases. Work involves functioning in narrow aisles or passageways. Employee will be working with students who have acute mental, emotional, and behavioral healthcare needs. Employee may drive and ride in Open Sky vehicles in support of program activities.
