Job Description

The Sports Modelling unit of the Data Science team is looking for a Quantitative Modeller that will be responsible for creating pre-match and in-play sports betting forecasting models. The role will be based in Athens.

Key Responsibilities

  • Fetch appropriate data from the data-lake.
  • Apply data cleansing methods to identify corrupt or inaccurate data entries.
  • Apply statistical techniques to identify patterns in the data.
  • Create models for various pre-match and in-play betting markets.
  • Implement models in object-oriented programming language.
  • Evaluate and maintain existing models.
  • Document the process followed.
  • Report to the Director of Data Science on workflow and share findings with the Data Science team.
  • Collaborate closely with product owners and software developers to move projects from idea to integration.
  • Communicate with clients the key elements that govern the model.

Qualifications

Essential

  • A postgraduate qualification in Data Science, Machine Learning, Statistics, Mathematics or a closely related quantitative field.
  • 3 years of working experience or a PhD in a quantitative field.
  • Advanced programming skills: (a) statistical programming (R or Python), (b) object-oriented programming (C# or Java) and (c) SQL.
  • Experience with various modelling techniques (e.g. Probability Distributions, GLMs, Monte Carlo Simulations, Bayesian Inference, Time-Series Analysis etc.)
  • A demonstrable interest in developing forecasting models for sports.
  • A good understanding of betting concepts and markets.

Desirable

  • 2 years working experience in the betting industry.
  • Knowledge of modern Machine Learning methodologies (e.g. Neural Networks, Random Forests, GBMs, SVMs etc.).
  • Experience with data visualisation platforms (e.g. Tableau, Qlik Sense, R-shiny etc.).
  • Experience with version control platforms (e.g. GitHub, Gitlab, Bitbucket etc.)
  • Experience with Jira and Confluence.

  • Fluent in English (written and spoken).
  • You must have a strong work ethic and outstanding interpersonal skills.
  • You must be self-motivated, a team-player and a creative thinker.
