What are the responsibilities and job description for the Credit Manager position at Opportunities?
The Credit Manager is responsible for managing a team of Portfolio Managers within a given region, and responsible for managing a limited loan portfolio. This includes effectively managing the Commercial Banking staff to properly assess, manage, and limit the Bank’s credit risk, all while meeting the needs of the customers. This also includes managing, mentoring, and developing the Portfolio Managers who report to this position. The Credit Manager approves, and/or recommends for approval, loan requests, loan reviews, and other related items within specified approval limits; these responsibilities can entail any or all of real estate, C&I, or specialty credits. A significant component of this position is managing workflow and the individuals on the Credit team, as well as collaborating with/and serving the Sale side.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Responsible for supervisory duties such as hiring/firing, training, coaching, directing work, performance evaluation, work assignment/scheduling, timecard/time off approval, employee grievances, disciplinary action, pay decisions, etc.
- Supervise, mentor, coach, and train staff incorporating existing knowledge, credit principles, and Omega training.
- Encourage teamwork and foster organizational commitment.
- Disseminate guidance and updates to staff.
- Support individual development plans through the Let’s Talk framework.
- Ensure pipeline of qualified candidates for staffing needs.
- Effectively lead the team in ongoing portfolio management in order to meet the needs of customers and Relationship Managers.
- Manage and direct the workflow and assignments of the Portfolio Management personnel, including pipeline monitoring.
- Collaborate effectively within the department, as well as with other departments (Relationship Management, Processing, Legal & Documentation, etc.) to ensure smooth loan flow process.
- Integrates reports to ensure efficient loan performance monitoring.
- Review and approve credit approval memorandums, modifications, and loan reviews.
- Ensure loans are underwritten according to bank practice, in compliance with policies and procedures, as well as regulatory guidelines.
- Monitor all loans in the portfolio for any signs of weakness or detoriation, and ensure that all loans are risk rated properly.
- Has approval authority of up to $1M for C&I and up to $5M in RE.
- Collaborate with senior management and other bank personnel as necessary.
- Monitors the region’s portfolio to ensure proper risk management and remain cognizant of developing trends
- Perform special projects from time to time as required by management
- Conducts trouble shooting and problem solving for routine to moderately complex issues.
- Conducts analysis of routine to moderately complex nature, makes determination of course of action, and makes recommendations to management.
- Using independent judgement, makes decisions on possible courses of action in adherence to the Bank’s Credit policies.
- May have input in or participate in the project management process and/or participate on a project team. Involves adhering to timelines, coordinating activities/tasks, achieving results.
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
- 3 years prior managerial experience required.
- Minimum of 8 years of experience in Commercial Banking, Loan Portfolio Management or other related area.
A reasonable, good faith estimate of the minimum and maximum base salary or pay for this position is 131,221 to 196,832. Actual compensation will vary based on various factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance. A discretionary bonus and/or business line incentive may be provided, in addition to a medical and other benefits, dependent on the position.
