The Indiana Skin Cancer Center is recruiting a Medical Billing Specialist to join our team in Greenwood, IN. The Indiana Skin Cancer Center is a partner of Optima Dermatology.
Position Details:
Reporting directly to the Revenue Cycle Director, the Medical Billing Specialist performs a variety of billing functions to minimize accounts receivable and increase reimbursement. Responsible for the complete revenue cycle process from claims submission and follow-up which includes accurate interpretation of EOB's, to working credit balances and resolution of patient billing concerns. Keeps current with third party payer rules and regulations and maintains the focus on processing clean claims, reducing days in AR and maximizing revenue.
Responsibilities:
- Perform timely and detailed follow-up on assigned accounts
- Review clearinghouse rejection reports and correct errors
- Identify trends with billing edits or billing system issues
- Respond to inquiries regarding billing and account related matters
- Demonstrate competency and a thorough understanding of rules and regulations for all HMO, government, and commercial insurance plans. This includes utilizing all payer websites to obtain most current payment and billing policies
- Ability to identify, research, and resolve refunds and overpayments
- Update patient demographics, insurance, and billing
- Resolve calls with patients and insurance companies professionally and in a timely manner
- Work collaboratively with staff
- Assist in the development of department policies and procedures
- Provides support and coverage as needed
Qualifications:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs
- Experience in a medical/healthcare environment, such as a hospital, physician office or ambulatory clinic
- Strong analytical, critical thinking, and effective communication skills
- Dermatology billing/collection experience preferred
- Working knowledge of CPT and ICD-10-CM coding
- Ability to work independently in fast-paced environment
