The Integration Manager is a key member of a team of professionals leading Optum’s acquisition integration efforts in Region 1 in Southern California. The Integration Manager oversees the post-acquisition integration processes, managing the onboarding of medical practices and providers onto Optum’s systems, workflows, and operational processes. This role is the primary driver of multiple acquisition post-close merger integrations and is highly collaborative across corporate and market-level functions. This position acts in a general manager capacity across all business lanes leveraging existing subject matter experts (SMEs) to aid in decision making. This individual will be responsible for partnering with Diligence & Integration Managers to develop and execute integration plans. The ideal candidate will be highly motivated, organized, process-oriented, and self-directed. This individual will have a successful track record of managing major strategic implementation initiatives and a solid understanding of healthcare business needs. This position handles and manages confidential material relating to corporate decisions, structure and significance. The Integration Manager will report to the Integration Director with dotted line reporting to the Director of Diligence & Integration.
General Position Summary:
The role is responsible for the successful initiation, execution, and monitoring of strategic merger & acquisition integrations. This role will be responsible for multiple cross-functional streams of work, identification, and resolution of program-level issues and the mitigation of risks where they pose a significant threat to success, always with a focus on delivering value to the business.
Essential Functions:
- Responsible for planning and execution of operational transitions of acquired physician practices to group-model / owned clinics.
- Manage relationships with senior business leads to ensure ongoing awareness, buy-in and shared ownership.
- Sets direction, resolves problems, and provides guidance to new teammates and clinical staff.
- Partners with Diligence & Integration Managers to develop and execute post-close integration plans by ensuring key milestones are met and dependencies managed. Will be expected to participate in pre-close meetings and planning sessions.
- Manages day-one readiness for acquired medical groups/physicians as handed off by the Diligence & Integration Manager.
- The primary point of contact for acquired physicians and staff for the first 100 days post-close.
- Assists to onboard, coach, and support new practice managers as an operational expert, to include onsite support for new practices.
- Develop and oversee steady-state turnover efforts once integration and transition management projects have closed.
- Provides regular feedback regarding the needs of local management and operational teams for acquisition transition activities.
- Identifies process standardization opportunities, leads the implementation of adoption of best practices and process improvement efforts in partnership with the Diligence and Integration team.
- Responsible for coordinating the interaction and involvement of local business stakeholders (e.g., operations, finance, accounting, IT, HR).
- Ability to anticipate areas of difficulty/potential unknown risks, contribute towards creative solutions and moves to action quickly
- Oversee migration of newly acquired entities onto Optum’s standard EMR, practice management, and revenue cycle systems.
- Ability to travel to clinic locations throughout the Los Angeles area to provide onsite support, facilitate and manage integration meetings.
Experience:
- Must have a minimum of 7 years’ experience in healthcare with at least 3 years of progressive management experience working in a highly complex, integrated health system. Experience with Mergers & Acquisitions and business integration is preferred.
- Demonstrated project management, consulting and facilitation skills.
- Ability to successfully perform in a matrix accountability structure, reporting the progress of deliverables and project updates to a national leader.
- Exhibit executive presence and possess strong organizational acumen.
- Familiar with healthcare concepts and practices as it relates to providers and healthcare clinics.
- Communicates effectively verbally and in writing, with all levels of the organization.
- Knowledge of Optum/ HealthCare Partners clinic practices and workflows is a plus.
COVID-19 Work Location Requirement: You will be asked to perform this role in an office setting or other company location, however, may be required to work from home temporarily due to space limitations.

Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Health Administration, Business Administration, Nursing, Public Health or related field, or a combination of education and/or equivalent experience specifically relevant to the primary accountabilities of practice management.
- MBA or Master’s degree preferred.
- Certification in Project Management is preferred but not required.
